He's not holding out for money, which is essentially non-negotiable because of the rookie pay scale. Mariota, a native Hawaiian, wants to be able to continue one of his favorite past times.

According to EndZoneScore.com, and later reported by The Oregonian, the Titans have an offset language clause in Mariota's contract that forbids him from surfing, presumably due to potential injuries. Mariota, who has been drawing rave reviews during offseason workouts, is expected to sign eventually and report on time for training camp.

Marcus Mariota hasn't signed rookie deal because he wants to surf, report says

I'm fine with letting him surf. I'm surprised that's his priority.

Mariota contract not stalled by surfing clause

There’s a report that’s getting some traction (especially in the slow time of the NFL calendar) that the Titans and quarterback Marcus Mariotahaven’t been able to work out a contract because the Titans want Mariota to agree to stop surfing, due to the risk of injury.

It’s would be intriguing debate. If Mariota were a surfer. He’s not.

A source with direct knowledge of the situation tells PFT that there’s no truth to the report, and that Mariota isn’t a surfer.

“Somebody made something up here,” the source said.

That doesn’t change the fact that Mariota doesn’t have a contract. But the impasse has nothing to do with surfing.

I’ll explain once again the likely source of the impasse in a separate post. Because it’s the slow time of the NFL calendar and we need to milk the cow judiciously.

Mariota needs to get his priorities straight.

It doesn't matter Marcus. Just sign the contract for the guaranteed money and we're you're out of the league in 3 years you can surf all you want.

Mariota isn't in Eugene anymore and he's not going to get his way on this.
