The past few years we have given up a lot of pitchers in our minor league system. We all know pitching wins championships and that is where our concentration should be in the minors and free agency.

Lainey you are right in our OF be very weak which it is above class A ball. We have some potential at the lower levels but that is years away. What depth we had in Aducci took a hit. But other than that we did not have much. Our starting pitching may be okay but that depends if Colby continues to improve and Holland is back in form if not we are in trouble. Our BP has become a weakness compared to how great it had been. There is definitely some work to do.

I was hoping we could trade Frasor at the deadline. His age makes me think it would be hard for him to have a high level of success for a season.

The article went on about both Cotts & Frasor and how at their ages (34/36) they've got to be handled a little differently and can't be counted on 3 outta 4 games like perhaps they once were. Our headaches and concerns just keeps on growing it seems.

I know we're having a beyond tough season, and the AS game can't here quick enough to suit me. Give everyone a little break and maybe a different perspective on it all; players and posters alike.

For me, as of right now, I don't ever in my life have memory of such a disappointing and deflating season to equal this one.

There is our chance to trade Frasor. Only trade Soria if we are getting something really good in return because I would prefer he stay with us. Oakland and now the Angels are pushing Detroit to make some pitching moves.

May have already happen with the Angels. Not that up on my relievers:

Colby threw Kinsler under the bus with class.

Right, he said he was disappointed in him, but that he loved him. Mostly it just came off as he didn't want to talk about him. And ESPN did an article stating the players weren't upset about Kinsler and whatever the 'saying hi" wave was.
I didn't really intend to bring up Kins, just frustrated with the way everything turned out. And really frustrated with the way things are going.
The A's who already were the best team in the A.L. just got even better. (most likely) They were able to add two pitchers, and here we are, struggling nearly every game,....and needing pitching this year and next.

Probably because Daniels put the Rangers on the map, we felt like we had arrived and were going to stay there. At least stay competitive. I didn't think we were going anywhere last year, but the games were still interesting enough to watch...don't think any one expected to see it come crashing down to 4th or 5th place, and that's certainly what happened this year with implications for next season.
First the injuries and then other players not looking very sharp.

In a area where every team has needs. This off season is going to be expensive and competitive. It won't be cheap to go after Shields, Price, Scherzer, that Boston pitcher and any other starting pitcher. We don't need to exactly to match Oakland but we got have a comparable rotation. We don't have as good line up as Oakland has either. Maybe not even when all is healthy.

I sure hope that Lucas Jackson is something. When does he pitch again? And the Chi Chi Rodrigues?

I have to assume (and have little doubt) the F.O. is already trying to figure out moves to salvage next season, and field a team that can threaten the rest in the division. In fairness to JD, he's the one who's blood pressure is rising the most, as we type away. He won't show it, and he shouldn't.

No idea when they pitch again, you can go to Lonestarball, and get pretty much anything you need on the prospects.

look at teams already making a push. I don't know those guys either.
I'm all for the Angels giving the A's trouble, highly unlikely they knock them off first. But if they did, the Angels are beatable in the playoffs, and then you can hope Oakland blows their playoff game.
Or by some miracle, the other way around.

I think you touch on two very good observations....cost and competition.

I thought we admitted long ago that the best way for us to have pitching was to grow our own. Or was this just valid as long as Nolan was here? But now we're going to have almost no choice but to pay the price to get a solid pitcher; maybe two for 2015 if we harbor any hope of truly being competitive.

Another thing this trade does is bring the Cubs SS's into play. They now have the #1 SS prospect in baseball to go with their current SS, Castro. You know they will be looking to shop one of them to get more pitching...and that will throw a big wrench into us trying to move EA...

That's a good point, we know now, they will shopping one of those guys for (probably) pitching. Certainly seems like it.

Never thought we'd be the team other teams would be fudging their numbers with. As we did last year with the Angels and Astros. Teams can't wait to play us now. Especially the A's when we throw Yu at them.

I may be by myself on this one, but while we've had a ton of injuries, this team is really under performing. This is still a line-up full of veteran hitters, and we just flat out don't produce runs. A lot of these same guys will be in the line-up next year + Fielder. Our rotation and bullpen suck and we all know that, but someone has to be held accountable for this IMO. We had trouble scoring runs last year. I hope the FO don't just chalk it up to a season lost because of injuries. Changes need to be made before next year.

If 4 hitters is full, I'm failing to understand the math. Rios, Choo, Andrus, Beltre. I guess you could include Martin and his 261 total games in the big leagues to make it five, but that's a huge stretch IMO. Rios and Beltre are hitting as well as they normally do or even better. Choo has been on one leg for about half the season, and as been discussed for months, EA has no business hitting 2nd.

What changes specifically are you asking to be addressed Justin?

I commented on this yesterday, our veterans are not stepping up ( other than Beltre). In fact, not only are they not producing, but they're committing mental mistakes (yes, I'm looking at you EA, and the veterans in our BP) that's costing us games.

I'm concerned that there is systemic problem with this team. It was apparent in 2013. The injuries are making things worse, but I have this feeling, that had we had little to no injuries, that his team would still be disappointing, whether it be chemistry, age, whatever. We would surely have a better record, possibly over .500, but only a game or two...my opinion for what it's worth...
