In my honest opinion, this upcoming year is just a stop-gap season for the Flames - They have some bad contracts that they need to get off the books combined with Tanguay reportedly wanting a contract in the range of 4 million to 4.25 million for several years.
The Smyth cap hit is huge, but it is only for one more season. It sucks in some ways, but some desperation moves by former GM Darryl Sutter have reared their ugly head.
what is supposed to be going the other way dash?
Not sure I understand the question jstew...Are you asking what's going to LA for Smitty?!? Haven't heard too much news on that.
/Aside from puck's post above.
yep ... maybe lagunadave has heard???
i wanted to say Smyths best days are behind him but I see he is still a consistent 20 goal guy. hes not paid to score but that is a massive cap hit for an aging player in our division.

Ryan Smyth has the 25th-highest cap hit among NHL forwards, at $6.25 million. He was 102nd in scoring among forwards last year.
BlobMac answers the question
Smyth deal is there to be done for draft pick(s) only, but CGY ownership currently debating whether it wants to take the plunge.
I was looking to see if CGY could easily ship back some salary to LA to help out with the Smyth cap hit.... jumpin' jiminy do they have a lot of no trade contracts!!
Iggy, langkow, stajan!!, bourque, jokinen!!, glencross, jblow, giordano, sarich!!, regher, kipper.
Hagman's the only one with a decent salary without a clause ($3m, 1 yr left)
That's a 15 yard penalty for piling on, jstew...
/Leos are looking good in the pre-season.
