Brought some of what on himself? He can guard all 5 positions and be pretty effective at it. That doesn't mean he can shut any one player down every time. He cant even stop everyone at the SF position.

If he could do significantly better than anyone else on the floor, he should step up and do it. If he doesn't have the endurance, then he can't effectively guard him.

I do think thinking he can guard him is ridiculous, and he shouldn't be expected to be able to. But if he could, he absolutely should. He's the superstar. It's his job to put the team on his back.

I think Lebron on Hibbert will be more about rebounds than Defence. They can let Hibbert score 30 if they get the rebounds. Hibbert isn't scoring 30 with out the rebonds though.

The 2 issues with putting Lebron on Hibbert are the wear it takes to give up 25 pounds and the increase in fouls he will probably receive.

He's using too much energy when he guards West. Lebron is a big, strong man. However, West and Hibbert are bigger and stronger. I don't think Lebron could handle Hibbert in the low post, or should even try.

Lebron could guard alot of centers in this league. Hibbert he cannot. Hibbert is just to big and to long. his athleticism will only make up for so much.

anyone else on the floor he would be fine on.

The issue is not if he can effectively do it. The issue is will he be able to do everything else the Heat need from him. IMO the answer would be no. So effectively stopping Hibbert would result in a Heat loss because no one else on the Heat wears as many hats as Lebron. Its dumb to use Lebron to just stop Hibbert.

Funny you say this because if you recall, Scottie Pippen would guard patrick ewing and times and he would guard Charles Barkley too. He'd play behind them and use his quickness when the ball was passed inside to get around them for a steal.

But Birdman should guard Hibbert. End of story.

I think that some folks are confusing the issue of Lebron guarding a 5. It's not that you can put Lebron on Hibbert (or any 5) for an entire game. It's that you pick and choose when to do it.

As great as Lebron is, it would be foolish to try and win a series (or even a game) having him guard the 5 (or even a 1) for the entire game. It would wear him down and he is too important to the Heat offense for that.

However, if you pick your spots and have him on them for short stints, it could help. Again, wouldn't want to try to win a game or a especially a series with him doing that full time though!!

I think thats the whole point. Whats Lebron going to do in those spot moments that Birdman, Joel Anthony, Bosh etc aren't doing now? He is regulated to just being another body thrown at Hibbert. Hibbert is too big and tall for anyone not his size to guard him.

This was what I was arguing for as well. If he's significantly better than the rest, then in key moments shouldn't he be able to step up and make the difference?

It's about giving a different look!! Lebron could use his quickness on Hibbert. You're not looking for Lebron to be particularly physical with him, but use finesse to defend against him.

For a possession or 2 at a time, it could be effective. However, as I said, wouldn't want to try it a lot.

I dont think the situation is that serious yet. No matter whos guarding him Hibbert is going to post up and hook them. I could see having a guard dig down on him and forcing him to pass it out but I just don't see the value of putting Lebron on him as a primary defender. Nothing really gained by doing that even in spot situations.

Since Lebron can't guard a real center effectively, then his Nutt lovers should stop saying Lebron can guard all 5 positions. The fact is he can't even guard the 3 positon that well.

Peace!!

James is usually the one who runs the fast break or taking the outlet pass. That's what you want...not him living underneath the rim battling inside.

Wow, this stat really illustrated the impact of Roy Hibbert on Lebron.

Look how fast Roy Hibbert can make a Gatorade disappear. And is it just me or is that the smallest Gatorade bottle you've ever seen in your life?
