it has everything to do with it - If LeBron is saying he wants to play with these players and see them grow - then while Leonard is a preferred player and a premium player being the second best in the NBA, then the Lakers don't have to drain their assets to get him and they can take a chance with free agency next year. I personally believe if the Lakers wait, that the chances are better that Leonard finds another destination - Most of these players in my opinion say the Lakers, but really are just using that as an excuse to demand the trade. Either way - I think the Lakers have a good team to develop and grow and then next year they have a great chance of developing their talent and adding to it. In short Leonard is no longer the highest priority for the Lakers and they do not need to and should not give up all three of their players - unless they are able to dump the Deng contract and get Leonard as well - I still think I would do that as much as I would like to keep Kuzma

Oh FFS. How is this possible...

If you're the Spurs - you want Ingram, Kuzma and the some picks

If you're the Lakers - you don't want to give up Kuzma if you don't have too

Stalemate because the Spurs have plenty of time - It's barely July - so by waiting - Leonard might even calm down a bit when he sees that the Spurs aren't going to blink.

Yes - It was and still is - but note that I called it a fantasy - I already know what the Spurs position is on this - That's why it's a fantasy - The Spurs organization is not stupid - they are not going to panic and trade that fast

It was your damn fantasy trade proposal.

I just had one hell of another option for the Spurs though:

Your reps contacts Leonard's agent and here is what you tell him.

Look we know that your boy want's out, but we are not willing to do a fire trade that forces us to lose the second best player in the NBA. That ain't happening bro. Now the best option for Mr Leonard is to come back and play - If he has recovered from his injury and plays good, then by the February deadline - we will work to trade him as requested. He needs to work with us here and be reasonable about it. If he doesn't and if he refuses to play, then we will go to the NBA and file a complaint and breach of contract and force him to submit to examination by our doctors to determine if he can play or not - And we will force him to miss an entire season and face legal action

Let us know something and have a nice day - Hard core and possibly carries some risk and I still think it would be better to get the best deal possible - but one would have to admit - this is something that fits Popovich's personality

I agree, he is. That's why he would never do that deal you proposed. It would make him look stupid and petty.

The Bazenmore/Kawhi Leonard part of my proposed deal was just kind of me spit-balling. However, the Green/DeMarre Carroll part was quite serious.

My step-dad is a HS English teacher and a stout disciplinarian, and he liked my post. My biological dad knows Popovich from his Merrillville days, and he liked my post. So, I don't need validation from you.

The people who didn't like my post are the snobby coastal folks like yourself who have a perpetual boner about Kawhi joining your team, so that's that and all there is to it. Moving on...

Well shit, you've got a disciplinarian English teacher and your Dad. Wow...how have you not taken over the world by now?

The people who didn't like your post didn't like it because it was stupid. I'd tell you that you're correct to move on and save yourself further embarrassment...but we both know that you're not smart enough to know you should be embarrassed.

And by the way, Danny Green is a very good defender. For the other 78 I take him.

Last I checked the Spurs are still a damn good team without Kawhi. So, those four games could determine whether or not they make the playoffs. Not only that, they'll have to match up with Durant four times, Paul George four times, and Giannis two times. Still good with Danny Green at this position???

Other than being a better stand-still three-point shooter, there is literally NOTHING that Green does better than DeMarre Carroll. Carroll is more physical, a better rebounder, is bigger, is a better defender against size, and is a better slasher.

And while we're at it so I don't have to bump a beaten-to-death thread, I'd like to point out ANOTHER one of your classic double standards...

Why do you continue to clown yourself?

Rings matter to everybody. I personally think they are a very overrated way to measure individual achievement in sport, but, the reality is that the all star caliber players on teams that play in the Finals every year tend to get in. And for good reason. Players who are on TV every June are more well known, or more "famous", than guys who don't. It is that simple.

Ring count is ONLY overrated to you when discussing the legacy of LeBron James, but not really of any other player...

Or maybe my trade idea was a last-resort option and you're just tying to prove your own self-importance.

The Spurs were a pretty damn good team with Kawhi last I checked, so it's not like him leaving is the end of all worlds, and last I checked they still have a pretty good system in place.

So because the the Spurs were pretty good with Kawhi and have a pretty good system, they should make a stupid trade?

Congratulations...you just managed to outstupid yourself. Well done. :thumb:

@tlance and I don't completely agree on the importance of ring count. But this is completely false.

He thinks ring count is overvalued period. Regardless of the player. So no, it's not just about Lebron.

I wrote that post weeks ago on another thread. It has absolutely nothing to do with this topic.

But you are correct regarding my assertions on the importance of ring count.

You do realize that most of Danny Green's value is tied to his defense right? Green made 2nd team all defense in 2017.

Carroll is a better matchup against LeBron because of his strength, but Green is an excellent defender. You trying to match him up with guys who play a different position than him doesn't change that.

The fact that SA is loyal to their guys and that Green has been a key role player for them for years. He fits the system and Carrol struggled mightily in Toronto before playing better on an awful Nets team. Why Would SA trade their guy for a player who isn't better and may or may not fit. Especially when said player is older and makes more money.
