it seems to me that article was 100% speculation.
I thought the Devs had run a 'proposed deal' through the league first to get kind of a pre-approval of the rough terms.
I have to keep looking at the dates and times of these threads. It's like the most confusing deja vu ever.

the 7 mil at the end is suppose to make the league think he won't quit after 10 years/ 90 mil. I think it really makes it obvious that this is a 10 year deal. We should know tomorrow if anything happens
But if the just cut off those last 5 years the cap hit goes from 6.66mil to 9 mil.If the Devils get rid of the final 5 years of the contract it should be acceptable. I don't expect this deal to be approved. I don't think the league is going to allow any contracts beyond 10 years anymore.
How much is the salary allowed to drop from season to season? Is it a problem that it drops from 4 to 1 mil or is it just a length issue?
rumor is there is a no movement clause throughout this entire deal. meaning the only way he comes off the books is if he retires. and there are several contracts under investigation that the players in question are under contract til 42.
i'm not saying this deal should be accepted. but you reject it and you have to back up your reasoning on those other deals.
Hopefully those other contracts will be rejected. However if they've already been approved & the player has played at least one season of said contract I'll be surprised if the league rejects it. The one thing the league could do is take away cap space or draft picks.
Since the extensions of Pronger & Luongo haven't officially begun they can & should be rejected if they circumvent the cap.
Another aspect of this is even if at some point a deal is accepted by the league they have the right to take away cap space or draft picks from the Devils for the contracts that were rejected. It will be interesting to see if the league does so.
