Where are all the outraged To***to fans that think George Armstrong is Lance's brother?

My friend,

The Leafs have made the playoffs once in the past decade. They have played in the postseason 5 times this century, FFS. The era of the delusional Leaf fan is dead, and has been for a while. What's worse, the young generation have absolutely no idea what it's like to see a competitive hockey team in this city; all my friends and co-workers with children say their kids like the Pens, Caps, Kings, Hawks etc. None of them are Leaf fans. They are way too fucking stupid to realize it, but those in charge are seriously risking the Leaf becoming an afterthought in this market, especially if the basketball team builds on their recent success.

I haven't been in Toronto that much in recent years. I'm a lucky man.

Nevertheless I have a hard time believing this. I've been to Leafs games in Ottawa and Montreal and there are plenty of young Leaf fans that come in from Toronto in both places. I can't see them falling off the map.

That being said they won't be the ONLY thing that matters in Toronto down the road. In fact I'd be willing to bet that they've lost a significant chunk of the Toronto sports/entertainment market. Their market share was so huge though that they can afford to lose a tonne and still not have to worry.

I find myself expecting them to either be eliminated absurdly early, or winning a playoff round...

I'll make a prediction of absurdly early, though.

March 11, losing at home to Buffalo.

The ever-changing demographic in the GTA (that is to say, Asian immigrants of all varieties) are far more likely to gravitate to basketball than hockey. They're building an $800 million cricket ground in the suburbs. The NFL still might be here sooner rather than later (and hopefully take the god-awful CFL out of this town). There are Leaf fans young and old, but just like the Blue Jays are struggling to attract young fans to the games because they haven't seen a winner in 20 years, the Leafs are struggling to get young fans to watch on television because a kid who turned 10 years old today will not have seen the Leafs win a playoff series. For the largest, most viable professional hockey market on the planet that is just unacceptable.

Some people still cling to the notion that the CFL would die without the Argos, but with the TSN contract in place, I'm not sure if that would be the case. Did I see approximately 17,000 was the attendance for the first Argos home game? Might as well move the franchise out of Toronto if people don't want to attend home games.
