Celine's making half a million dollars more than Brooks Orpik. Let that sink in for a moment, and suddenly it almost looks like the Leafs got some sort of sick twisted bargain.

With the cap going up, the Phaneuf contract is simply a case of Toronto being a bit ahead of the market timing-wise. In a year or two, it will not look bad at all, and will be easily tradeable.

Really it was a case of a team painting itself into a corner in the last season before UFA. They couldn't afford to lose him (well technically they could have if they'd gone into a total rebuild but they made it clear that wasn't where they thought they were or what they were going to do), but they couldn't afford to re-sign him either.

See now Dan Girardi would have looked great in Leaf blue.

Anything is better than dumb and dumber.

How long til Burke hires them in Calgary? (Sorry HC & Dash)

O.k. so I will ask the dumb question. These two minions go and Nonis stays? And then you add a layer of management with Shanny?

Maple Leafs president Brendan Shanahan
General manager Dave Nonis.
The Toronto Maple Leafs hired Kyle Dubas as their assistant general manager

Poulin had served as vice president of hockey operations for the Maple Leafs and Loiselle as vice president and assistant general manager.

What does that org chart look like? Who reports to who? And who does what?

Irrelevant. It is all Phaneuf's fault.
