BOS...that has been out there since Russell's days, but they still were able to attract good black players...no doubt it could be a factor, but it hasn't really effected the Pats/Red Sox...didn't they land the top CB Revis?...Probably KG was the last big FA....I think the Celtics have just been mediocre to bad since Doc and his crew left. Now that they are decent, we'll see how it goes...a few names linked to them.

35 wins would be great for the Lakers next season, but you don't want to get stuck there.

Horford imo is a pretty decent 4, but a relatively weak 5, but you're right...small ball is the new wave.

Who have the Celtics attracted via free agency? Seems like any notable player they have acquired in recent memory came via trade or draft.

KG was a trade I take it...thought he was a FA...maybe it's more a Celtic problem then because like I said Patriots and Red Sox don't seem to have the same problem.

The front office extended qualifying offers to Clarkson, Black, and Huertas. Clarkson was obvious. I like that they still have interest in Black.

Good move. I like that Kelly is pretty much out of the picture

Kelly had chances to prove himself at this level. He thinks he's a stretch-4 but has really struggled to hit the deep ball at the NBA level. Nice kid but time to move on.

Sign Conley, trade Russell for Cousins?

Interesting thought, although it would likely take more than just Russell to get that trade done.

PG: Conley
SG: Clarkson
SF: Ingram
PF: Randle
C: Cousins

I don't know. The most recent thing I read (i'll try to re-trace the link) says a straight up trade with some fillers to make the numbers/salaries work. But it would certainly be an interesting line up.

Even Whiteside is too good for the Lakers?

Agree. Next summer is when they want to put their best foot forward anyway because it's a much deeper FA class.
I hear this every year. It is getting old.

The only part in the current line up, assuming Ingram slots in at SF, that needs addressing is the Center position. There are plenty of teams willing to trade their big men (Sixers, Kings) in order to get Russell. If Mike Conley is signed, i'm pretty sure Russell will be traded for one of those bigs.

After that they only really need to upgrade the bench.

same here. i just think at some point you have to have some mid tier talent to interest some free agents besides rookies and 2nd year guys. can't keep signing 1 year deal guys and expect top free agents to show up.

Everyone appears to be scared away because of the rumors that the front office is a mess and will continue to be as long as short Buss is around. That and we are in a serious rebuild mode. So be it. I'm really tired of people thinking that a Max FA agent contract is the key to a championship. The Dubs didn't do that. They drafted pure young talent and developed it. I am quite sure Luke can take Russell and Clarkson and get the max out of them just like in Dubsland with Curry and Thompson. That is what Luke appears to want to do with the Lakers.

Perhaps Luke has been briefed and is aware of the Russell/Swaggy incident and figures that a whack job immature Cousins is worth giving up the talent of Russell. I disagree. I still think they should keep Russell as the league continues to be guard-centric and small ball is still in vogue even though bigger ball won this year's championship-with help of Silver and the refs of course.

I think he holds it against the Lakers that they didn't sign him to the preseason squad a couple of seasons ago. He has plenty of options to get his max contract other than the Lakers.

making a tough comparison. klay and steph both came into the league shooting over 40 percent from 3. as rookies. not much to develop there. if your drafting that kind of talent then sure you don't have to go out and get top level free agents. but when clarkson is 34 percenter. russell was less than that. I'm not even talking championship. a max FA contract is a key to winning more than 17 games.
