Great move. And this is what LA should have done with their open CAP before all the 4 year FA signings. Maybe you can teach an old dog

They have. They took on Jeremy Lin from Houston along with a first round pick that they used on Larry Nance Jr.

Calderon is certainly an upgrade over Huertas. Calderon can shoot the 3.

A year or so after they traded a first round pick for 2 months of Ramon Sessions.

I had forgotten about the Lin trade -- good move.

He was the worst starting pg in the league last year but coming off the bench he could give a little spark every now and then.

That's skewed by being forced into the triangle last year. He's a career 10/6.5/2.6/0.9 guy shooting .474/.412/.875 in 29 min. Last year, he was 7.6/4.1/3.2/0.9 shooting .459/.414/.875 in 28 min. Not too much of a fall off, stat wise.

I would be thrilled if the Lakers get 35 wins. It would turn the franchise page and put the Lakers on the map next summer

As a Sixer fan, I would love to see the Lakers win about 30-35 games.

35 wins would've put you near the end of the lottery this year. Not exactly great value on that draft pick.

Great quote from Lakersnation:

"It also has to be considered that the Lakers were about $12.3 million beneath the league’s $84.6 million salary floor. Should they not add contracts to their roster at least equal to that amount, they would be forced to take the difference and divide it up amongst the players they have under contract.

In other words, the Lakers are spending at least $84.6 million on salaries this year no matter what they do, which means that the money they are giving to Calderon had essentially already been spent, only now they are actually getting something for it."

That's what I've been saying. They have to spend it

Nobody has to spend it but it's usually logical to do so. Your best bet if your rebuilding is to fill it with one year deals that are also tradeable assets. It's an asset if used wisely

If they don't spend the money under the cap, they have to divide the amount equally and give it to the players, so yes they do have to spend it. The question then how do they have to spend it and it makes more sense to pick up Calderon and spend the money on him rather then giving it to the existing players. In short - 48% of the revenue belongs to the players and is not theirs to keep

Cavs and lakers get players for nothing, those are always the best type of trades....because if they don't work out, who cares

I at least read that Dunleavy is costing the Cavs a second round pick, so its almost nothing, moreso, its a non guaranteed rookie contract that is easily moved.

This calderon deal will also send two second round picks to the lakers, but the bulls get the rights to one of the lakers players, possibly someone stashed overseas or d league.

Ater Majok from the 2011 draft (playing in Poland)

and apparently the bulls got the rights of a guy that was drafted 12 years ago from Cleveland Albert Miralles. Again, drafted in 2004.
