Ain't much of anything out there in 29 Palms

It's in the middle of nowhere, but in the middle of everything so long as you're willing to drive a couple of hours. I've been out in Palm Springs/LA/San Diego quite often on the weekends.

My favorite thing about LA is it's proximity to Vegas.

Maybe some of you So Cal boys dudes can help me. I am landing in SDIA and driving up to Rancho Mirage. Google has 2 options that take about the same time. Which is better:

1-Go up the 15/215 to Riverside and hook a right and catch the 60/10 east/south (goes around the desert and mountains)

2-Go up the 15 to Temecula and catch 79/371/74 through the desert and SR mountains

Also what are the risks/rewards.

Thanks in advance.

Kind of depends on the time of day. But, I'd take route 1. 79/371/74 is actually a lot of city street driving. Taking the 15/215 keeps you on the freeways. You can take the 215 to the 60 and then take the 60 to the 10.

Just curious, but why are you flying into San Diego? If you flew into Ontario, it's a straight shot down the 10. It would also knock a lot of miles and time off of your drive.

What, no love for the 110?

You moved to the beach TF12?

Working down there. The move will be next, but not sure when. The stepdaughter with the grandsons is planning to move down that way at some point and my wife has already made it clear that we will be moving down there when they do.

I was already scheduled to be off today. But yeah, I've been telling people that I'm off for Kobe Bryant day.

That's with a lot of traffic. It usually don't take no more than 4 hours with little to no traffic.

That's what I thought. Most people claimed it was closer to 3 1/2 without traffic, but they may have a heavy foot.

This past Memorial Weekend, it took us almost 7 hours to get home. That traffic was crazy. I almost killed myself.

Well just hope you had air conditioning in the car. 7 hours is brutal. Could be worse, you could have to go Reno instead of Vegas as your Nevada hub.

Reno is about the equivalent drive from SF that Vegas is from LA. Once got stuck in traffic for 6 hours on the 4th of July weekend. It was insane.

Fly into the following airports, in this order:

1. Ontario

2. Long Beach

3. Burbank

If you drive thru Temecula, stop at the winery.

I didnt see anything for Ontario from the east coast. Thanks for the tip though, I will take another look at it. I have not bought the tickets yet. PSP is a connector flight only and the cost increase is substantial so not sure I can do that and SD seemed like the cheapest flights from the Northeast.

Thanks for the warning on option 2 as well. Didnt know how the traffic was on the 10 that far east but I was leaning towards that.
