I guess we'll see.

I just don't think Boston has much of chance to beat Cleveland now. But they weren't all that close to beating them last year either. I just think philosophically Ainge should have kept building the team the way he was. Or if you're going to trade IT and assets, do it for somebody better than Kyrie.

I really have a hard time seeing how the Celtics are better this year than last because of this trade.

Heck the Celtics basically swapped out their entire team except for Horford and some bench players. So it's hard to know how they will be as a team at all. Is Horford, Kyrie, Hayward definitely better than IT, Bradley, Johnson, Crowder? I guess.

Hard to see them beating the Cavs still.
Stevens is a great coach though.

The defense and the front court needs work though

hard to give up guys like Crowder and Bradley and not expect the defense to take a down turn. Smart is a very good defender but hes a pretty big offensive liability--- though he can get hot- like that one game against the Cavs he was actually scorching.

totally agree.

Draymond is important too just because if he was hurt their PF and C positions would be thinner than Bosh's blood

(too soon?)
Ouch. That's kinda rough man. It's life threatening.

I don't necessarily disagree with the rest of your post... at least not too bad.

However, I will take issue with the above. If you're in the business of winning championships, Irving is a pretty substantial upgrade over IT.

Why? Because IT is that big of a target and liability on defense.

I loved IT. I rooted for him. I would have rooted for him to the end if he was a career Celtic. But my head always told me that he was not a championship player because of his height.

Most folks around here had no problem saying what I just said during last years playoffs. But now... seems most folks have forgotten about IT's extreme limitations on defense.

(And yes, I'm aware that Irving isn't a good defender either. But he's not the weak link target that IT is because of his height... and that makes all the difference, IMO)

If you are in the business of winning championships, Kyrie Irving is not your best player.

You know who might be that guy? Bagley and Porter.

Boston crippled their chances of landing one of them.

Honestly- if i was Boston i would have probably waited a little longer to see if AD became avaliable.

If I was Ainge I would have given the Pelicans an offer they couldnt refuse---- Tatum, Brooklyn pick Crowder, Zizic, Lakers pick.

Especially with the cav's having D Rose. :rolleyes2:

Honestly- Boston may have just thrown the Cavs a huge lifeline

if that pick comes in top 2--- goodnight Irene.

That's the glass half full outlook. But let's look at it from the other side.

Let's fast forward to June 2018. Let's say the following happens.

1) Nets finish with 28 wins and are drafting 6th in the 2018 draft

2) Cleveland loses to GS in 5 or 6 once again.

3) Lebron decides to move on.

4) Cleveland refuse to give IT the max that he is looking for. He gets it elsewhere

This is all possible.

But, the question is, what were the odds of LeBron leaving before this deal? Credible sources had them at 100%. I guarantee that isn't true anymore.

Kyrie had to go, and it is possible that Cleveland is better both in the short term and long term from this deal. That shouldn't be possible.

Boy, Irving gets a raw deal here.

26PPG as LeBrons wingman, shot 49% from the field and 41% from 3PT.

He also ripped the Celtics to pieces in the ECF where Isaiah turtled.

Lolol

Irving was the #1 pick 6 years ago. You can't win the title with him? But you can win a title with a guy who hasn't even played a college game yet? Good Lord.

People are acting like LeCramp is an immortal highlander. He's aging, and going into uncharted territory, he very well could get hurt. :crutch:

well long term depends on where the pick comes in- if its Bagley or Porter--- than yah- probably--- unless Kyrie somehow learns how to be an above average defender.

Kyrie though- while he is one of the most skilled- if not the most SKILLED player in the league- has never been an amazing athlete---- Rose, Wall, RW---- those guys are amazing athletes.

Kyrie always did it with skill. ITs why his defensive ceiling just isnt that great...he has better size than Thomas for sure which helps--- but its not like he is a beast that is just lazy on defense. He really doesnt have the tools to become an above average defender from what i have seen. Hes not strong enough/fast enough/powerful enough to really battle guys defensively.

To say nothing of the fact that any objective person would tell you that Kyrie Irving was the real Finals MVP two years ago.

I'm just bummed that a player that acted like a little bitch because he wasn't getting enough attention ended up on a contender. I was really hoping he would be traded to Minnesota.

Boston isn't really a contender.

They have about a 6% chance of beating Cleveland and 0% to beat the Warriors.
