ESPN is a year behind. That was last year's salary.
Is it common for players salaries on the good side of 30 to decrease? Not only Robinson, but Brunson's steps down next year as well. Seems odd to me.

Not common but not unheard of, in baseball too (Nolan Arenado's contract declines over time too). Kinda makes sense for older players especially.

Both those guys are still under 30 though. My first thought was Robinson must have thought he could play his way into a renegotiation, but he hasn't.

Teams will sometimes front load a contract to allow some extra cap for flexibility or to ease anticipated future cap burden in future seasons.

4/81M is pretty cheap in terms of recent extensions. What is funny about it, that Hart didn't get more? $13M to $20M is a reasonable raise for his level of play.

Umm OK.

This was an extension. Not a new signing. He was still under contract for this season before this. 3 offseasons from now the Knicks will still owe Hart roughly 2 years and $45M in salary. He will be 31 and already a descending player.

This is one of those contracts that you just laugh at because you know that years down the road they will be looking to sell his contract off by throwing in every 2nd round pick that they own in order to create space for an actual difference maker.

.....and all that for a replacement level player whose only real plus attribute is his rebounding that you could have just as easily played out the current season and seen where his value was next offseason. An offseason where the league is mostly going to be capped out again and most teams literally aren't allowed to offer Hart this type of offer because this is WAY beyond mid level exception pay.

3 off-seasons from now that $45M will not hold as much value as it does today, only 11-12% of the annual cap (he's just under 10% at his current salary of $13M) . The salary cap is set to ramp up over the next stretch of years as they smoothed the cap bump from the new TV deal:

23/24: $136M
24/25: $142M
25/26: $156M
26/27: $172M
27/28: $189M

And he will likely be playing for Seattle or Las Vegas as he won’t be protected on an expansion draft.
