New line fixes sacks, not picks.
I'd argue a quicker release and acceptance that not every play needs to be a big one would help Griffin more at this point.

Unfortunately I don't think so. This doesn't appear to be a sting draft class for QBs.
i'm hearing there about 4-5 qb prospects worth looking at.

Wow I thought I was the last RGIII defender here. But even I have to admit what I see and that is RGIII is no NFL QB. Not now and probably not ever. As I said in another thread the one thing Kirk did well last night was move in the pocket to avoid pressure. I kept seeing plays where Griffin take a sack, no question.

As for Griffin's interception rate that was what I hung my hat on for a long time too. But the truth is 2012 was the only year where it was relevant. Due to his obvious limitations coaches limited him to very short throws for the entire second half of last season and a good bit of the previous year. Hard to throw picks when you are throwing 4 yard passes.

Prospects? Yes. QBs ready to start in the NFL in 2016? Very limited pool, if any. I'm all for taking a prospect and bringing him along, but throwing any of these guys out there game 1 their rookie season and you have most likely just wasted your pick.

Too early to say that I think. I keep hearing people talking about Goff for one.

Really GK? Behind what, the worst offensive line in football? Year 1 he led this team to an NFC East title with very little help other than Morris. Now that we have a so called improved line, he gets NO shot? I call B.S. Griffin certainly has his issues and needs to continue learning how to play the position however, his upside and athletic ability gives him the edge over turnover prone Cousins and noodle arm McCoy. I still believe McCloughan has a plan that includes RG3.

I loved RG3 in year one. That is a player he refuses to be. I find it hard to believe you forget the year Garcon had year one of RG3 too.

We do have an improved line but how much of that has to do with the QB? Look at RG3 sacks taken last season/dropback and compare it to the other two. Griffin hurts his OL...period.

RG3 is done in the NFL...he will get another shot and fail.

We've also seen what kirk can do.

We really haven't. If you think backups are treated the same way and coached the same way as a starter, you are naïve. That being said, I don't know if KC is the answer either.

New line doesn't fix sacks because RG3 still thinks he can outrun everybody like he did in college and HS. RG3, with the same line as other QBs, has proven he takes sacks at a higher rate/dropback.

Late to the convo but here's my :2cents:

We've seen Kirk fully loaded with the ability to read defenses, protect himself, and be in control of his movements in the pocket and my honest evaluation is that he is OK. OK, however is really what you want in your backup. Mind you there nothing wrong with being a backup in the NFL, many have made good careers doing so. In fact one of our originals is still around after 10 seasons, most of them as a backup. (Jason Campbell)

Here's what we have not seen, a fully loaded RGIII, complete with the same LEARNED skills as listed above for Kirk. Most reasonable people would agree, that it would serve Washington well to attempt to train Griffin while he is away from the spotlight and able to concentrate on learning those skills. If he cannot, then releasing him carries little to no risk of his becoming a further embarrassment or a game changer elsewhere. If however, he's able to master those skills, Washington just might be able to use the draft for other needs. The risk is minimal, the rewards could be very substantial.

Stymietee, I'm sure RG3 would be a heck of a QB in Washington if David Shaw was his HC.

OK, why is he so bad? An honest answer will tell you that training him properly would eliminate almost everything that you can list. If he's unable to master those skills, no big loss, he's gone anyway right?

How much 'training' does he deserve? How long are you cool being a terrible team? He's already started more than 35 games and is still fundamentally one of, if not the worst QBs in the league.

He's been in the league 4 years. His footwork still sucks, his vision still sucks, his decision making is very questionable at times, and he's never once shown an ability to stand in the pocket keep his eyes downfield taking on a pass rush. Some of this 'training' is on him. RG3 is all about the glam of the weight room. The fact that he hasn't gotten better is on him just as much as it's on his coaches.

One thing you never seem to mention is the injury risk.

Can the guy stay healthy and protect himself? Outside of his other ongoing issues, staying healthy is a 16 million dollar issue for us.

All of it is on the organization, and their rush to start him knowing that he lacked those skills. BTW, you don't learn most of those skills playing the game at this level. Check out the regiment set up for Aaron Rodgers in GB. Do you honestly think that they made a mistake sitting him for 4 years?

So are you saying RG3 should be starting? Or sitting and learning?

It sounds like both to me.

Yeah, I've got to admit....that was another mistake by our organization. Thankfully, it only kicks in if he cannot pass a physical going into next year. Another reason why I insist that the rotation if there's going to be one this year, should be Kirk....Colt...and back to Kirk.
