Kirill Kabanov shows up late...again

I still think he's well worth a 3rd round pick. Afterall he's only 18 and it could be much worse. Not saying tardiness is acceptable (coming from someone who will probably be late to my own funeral) but at least he's not getting into trouble with the law or anything like that.

Or he could have started a thread with a poorly spelled thread title. That's it, I'm going back to the swamp where I could edit my thread titles. ;)

Okay this is probably a stupid question but where do I find that? I'm totally not seeing it anywhere. I'm still pretty unfamiliar with a lot of the features on this board.

D'oh! I clearly see it now when I click "Edit" on my more recent post but my Edit time has expired from the OP. Not sure how I missed it earlier. Oh well good to know for next time. Thanks.

I'd be concerned if he was in trouble with the law. All he needs is a NEW alarm clock. There's no question that Kabanov needs to grow up. He's being held accountable which is a good thing. He has to do extra sprints & other drills before he can join the rest of the team.

Kabanov will spend the season with Moncton. However there is no doubt in his talent. His skill level can be described in one word "SICK".

As a Moncton Wildcat hater I was really hoping he would manage to earn a spot on the Isles this season. :D

That being said, reading the Wildcats boards they have mixed feelings about him right now. They are pretty divided. Some think he will just cause trouble when he comes back and others think/hope that his talent is too much to ignore even if he is a bit of a problem child. I tend to agree with the latter and think they'll be a better team with him, especially since he'll have a bigger role with the team this year which should eliminate most of his (and his dad's) attitude problems from last year. You never know. He may just suffer from a sleeping disorder. But whatever happens to him in junior this year, I still think he'll be fine in the long-run and that he was a steal as a 3rd rounder. He burnt a lot of bridges back in his homeland so there's not much concern that he'll goto the KHL either.

We tend to forget sometimes that these guys are 18 years old. Kabanov has a lot of growing up to do. There are so many stories every week about some college star getting in trouble with the law or an agent. Being late for practice is minor compared to that stuff. The Islanders aren't playing around though. If Kabanov makes mistakes he's being held accountable for them. It's probably the first time in a very long time he's been held accountable for anything.

Exactly. He needs to be held accountable and he is. They make him skate and so he does and let that be the end of it but proceed with caution is the way I look at it. There are far worse things that could be happening. Also I believe this is the first time he has not had his parents or a billet family watching over him. I'm sure the same can be said for many other young prospects who don't have this problem but nobody is perfect and I'm sure they all have their own struggles of different sorts. And whether people like it or not, or chose to acknowledge it or not, his talent does give him at least a little bit of a larger margin for error. Not saying that is either right or wrong but its reality. But that's probably what he was always use to in Russia. Then this time last year he had 2 teams on 2 different continents in a major dispute for his rights. Of course he's going to get a bit of an ego. Or maybe like I said previously that it has nothing to do with an attitude. Maybe its something he struggles with and he's as disappointed in himself as anyone. Some people just aren't morning people yet have to learn to adjust to a morning person's world. While he may be blessed with hockey skills, what comes easy for so many other people (getting a good nights sleep and getting up nice and early) might be 1 of the biggest challenges in his life.

Also here is a top 10 list of potential excuses for his tardiness:

I like the Dipietro excuse best.:L Supposedly Ricky is healthy. His schedule includes days off so his workload isn't as much as the other guys. Time will tell if Ricky plays much this year. It will be a welcome surprise but I'm not about to hold my breath.

Kabanov is staying with Trevor Gillies. One would assume they would arrive on a daily basis together but I guess that isn't the case. I think the Isles will keep Kabanov in camp as long as possible. I believe they want to do all they can to make sure he understands what it's going to take to play at the NHL level. They also probably want to let him know there are consequences for his actions.
