True. But most players hit a lull. You guys are sure kicking what has been a life saver in the butt.
I am very grateful for what he is giving us. I am just remembering that we don't need to sign an OF to a long term deal with the cheap talented guys we have coming up. To me it would be similar to signing a COF just before Juando and Sierra were ready to come up.

Beltre was a monster until he got stuck in safeco, where hitters go to die.
Everyone complained that he played his best in his contract years and to stay away from him including many who are now on this board.

Not nearly the same situation. It would be a bad move. Period. Also, most were ecstatic about the Beltre deal as I recall. Only angels trolls tried the rhetoric you're citing.

Going the other way has been a huge key to Desmond's success.

That's what they said about Beltre.
Beltre's lowest BA in the 5 years before he came here was .265 while Desmond has hit lower than that 3 times in the past 5 years. I don't know how much of this success has to do with a contract year, but it is definitely an outlier at this point. Again though, I have loved what he has done for us this past 6 weeks or so.

I was glad we signed Beltre. But he has huge years with the Dodgers in his last year and his one year with Boston. That's just what many were saying.

I do remember some on the DMN and/or ESPN boards who were not on board with going after Beltre. I had my share of arguments with those folks at the time. Most of them changed their minds once we signed him though. I think they were just trying to give JD an excuse because they thought he wouldn't sign here.

By the way I like to take the other side many times (devils advocate) because things are really not so black and white as they seem.

What's the move then? Where does Profar play? Is he the DH? or do you DH Odor?
It's a tough question with no perfect solution, for sure. But he's just an electric player who is a difference-maker, and that's something that any contender needs.

Screw Prince Fielder. Park his fat ass permanently on the bench and do whatever you can to trade him.

Rotate the middle infielders along with Rua (and occasionally Beltre) at DH. Profar could DH twice a week, play 2B once, SS once and maybe even a game at 3B or LF (maybe?). DH him 3 times a week for a month or two if you have to. I just think they could find some kind of workable rotation which would keep his bat in the lineup 5-6 games a week.

I'd prefer to keep Profar in the IF, but otherwise I had the same idea as you.

Yeah its a difficult situation that doesn't have a traditional fix.... and I agree about Fielder at this point, my question had him out of the picture, but his position being DH makes for a weird setup
