We all know that David Akers is the favorite to win the kicking job. I just want to know who everyone WANTS to win. I personally want Rugland to win it. Lets face it, no kicker we pick up is going to compare to Jason Hanson, and no kicker is going to be perfect, so might as one pick the cooler one :yahoo: Unless of course, he sucks terribly

Give me Kickalicious. Martin with Rugland. It's a new Era. Let the young strong legs run with it....I don't want shit to do with Akers.

Akers never got over his hip injury and it is still an issue last I heard. I was touting Kickalicious back at CBS before he was even being considered by the Lions.

Don't tout or pout. Just love the leg.

Saw it live today. Kickalicous has a monster leg. Can't help but think whether the Lions might actually try and stash him on the practice team even. Coach him this year and next he could be a great kicker.

Not stupid at all, but if he's not on the 53 then yes it's stupid....Sure he will miss some at 50 Akers will miss many at 40.

We need to email a link of this to Allen Park so they can see the support that Rugland has among the fans, and how much non of us trust Akers.

I'm sure they're worried about Rugland being a rookie and all, but perhaps it would influence their thinking if they knew he had our unwavering support?

Lol I know it would be terrible but wouldn't it be cool if then last spot on the 53 man roster was decided by a fan vote.

I've also heard Akers is the favorite. I want Rugland for different reasons.

1) He has a stronger leg. Much better for kick-offs.
2) If the Punter gets hurt, he can handle that too.
3) He is young and has a career ahead of him. Akers will retire soon and then we might wish we had kept Rugland.
4) He is already a bigger celebrity and will get more attention for the Lions.
5) We would have the coolest kicker in the NFL.

If they have to keep Akers for his experience, then I would want them to keep two kickers. In the very least let him handle kick-offs and maybe kick some meaningless FGs for the experience. Then once he is ready, you let Akers go.

Not to mention if we are punting from deep in our own territory, I wonder if he would have a bigger leg for punting it deep and high to help shift field position.

I went to camp with Meow yesterday, the competition wasn't close. Kickalicious was far better than Akers! They guy was kicking 40 yard FG's with little effort.

You know something is wrong when everyone on this board agrees but the coaches don't. We shall see who wins the spot.

I Played football and soccer in H.S......I graduated from the same High School as Curry.....E.E. Smith H.S. Fayetteville N.C.

I couldn't make the football team because I was to small and slow by that standard. I did make the team when the coach came to the soccer team looking for a field goal kicker. I know kickers, and Rugland has it.
