Sorry but it’s going to take more than Brown and picks. And most of those picks are protected in a range, if I am correct. I want Kyrie or Heyward and Brown and possibly a pick.

I agree.

If I'm a Celtics fan, I wouldn't want Kyrie on this team anymore.
In a vacuum... he'd be the easiest one to part with...

In a vacuum. I don't see him being a part of any deal as likely... because why would San Antonio do that?

I agree with your earlier comment when it comes to Hayward... why on earth would San Antonio want him and his salary?
Here's another thing:

After the Thomas getting hurt, then getting traded thing last summer...

How would that play to prospective free agents if they traded another broken guy they claimed to love?

Over at a Celtics fan site, this is a deal that was spiff-balled:
  • Marcus Smart (sign and trade)
  • Jaylen Brown
  • Semi Ojeleye
  • picks
^ The economics of it work decently well for a team that would be rebuilding (San Antonio would most definitely be rebuilding, not reloading in the wake of this)... and Brown is a fine prize apple. Better by himself than any of Kuzma, Ingram, Wiggins... or just about any other young prospect I've seen floated.

Why would they want Smart?

His temperament doesn't fit the Spurs model at all.

Yeah, I could see the Spurs leaning towards wanting Kyrie. Higher upside, and his contract is about to expire. It's a weird situation.

To add fuel to the conspiracy fires....

Remember this?

Great time to ship his ass back for Picks, prospects...

Don't be like the Clippers.

Completely bottom out.

Report: LaMarcus Aldridge called Damian Lillard about facilitating trade back to Trail Blazers last year

Yeah, I'm sure LA is ready to go back to Portland. If they can manage to keep CJ and Dame, they'd be a dark horse in the West if luck went there way a bit........ok, maybe not a dark horse. But an exciting team to watch that could make the WCF (ceiling).

Okay....

If Chris Haynes is correct, the Spurs totally overplayed their hands.

They tried to set a meeting with just Kawhi.

His agent, Uncle, everyone else were excluded.

He declined and wants out.

This is not Deandre Jordan who you can hold hostage and change his mind.

Bad power play move, Spurs.

I hear you to some extent... however, I'd argue when it comes to the crazy spectrum... Smart is more towards the 'good crazy' end of the spectrum.

He's a warrior on the court. He's more a bonehead off of it...

San Antonio might could work with that... his attitude is arguably good for a rebuilding team... 'never give up' hustle and aggression.

Brown is the bigger prize, of course.

If the Celtics can land Kawhi, I'm sure they'll have no problem throwing in Hayward. The Spurs will likely need to throw in another play for the salaries to match. Problem is, the Spurs will be in full rebuild so they're probably not trying to gain another star which keeps them in mediocrity.

Brown just isn’t enough. Great potential but if it’s a player and picks, it’s Tatum or Kyrie and Kyrie with those injuries

Presumably, Boston gives them the best assets and they'd avoid him being in the West.

Woj seems to agree :noidea:.

Oh, I agree too.

Boston has by far the best package of assets. But, how much will they be willing to pay if Kawhi provides no indication he is more than a rental.

I think Woj is right.

Brown and picks.

Brown and picks Trumps Kuz, Ingram 2 years of Deng and getting slaughtered by the Lakers super team 4 times a year.

They can't trade Brown and picks though.

Boston's roster has 3 big money players and a bunch of guys on rookie deals. Either Kyrie, Hayward or Horford needs to be at the center of the deal to make the money work. That is, unless Boston is willing to come off of like all their young talent.

Are you allowed to trade a restricted FA signee right away? I didn't think you could do that.

Will be interesting to see where he goes. Wherever he's traded to they're getting a top young star.

Celtics have shown that building a team of small forwards is not a bad way to go.

Speaking from hypothetical dream land.... LeBron, Kawhi, PG13, & Ingram would be one hell of a team of small forwards.

Yeah, Wilbon just said it would probably by Kyrie to match salary.

Fat Ass ,Windhorst, just made a good point.

Kawhi can't sign an extension until 6 months after the trade.

So, everyone will have to take a risk.

He also said where Kawhi goes may block, not enhance, Lebron's choice.

I think the Spurs would want Tatum involved. How much are the Celtics willing to give up to make this happen?

They can want Tatum form Boston as much as they want Simmons from Philly.

I doubt either goes in the final deal.

It could always be a 3 team deal for either kyrie or Horford.
