The team is obviously exhausted. Who cares about 73 if you can't make it through the playoffs. The Bulls could do it because they had Jordan and he could will a team 90+ games. There's no Jordan on the bulls.

When you're about to beat the "BEST" team's record in NBA history, there's no other choice but to go and JUST DO IT!

Besides, these Gus are young and you get plenty of off days in the playoffs. They don't need rest the same way that the Spurs and LeBron do.

I agree. No need to give them several games off. All their top guys are pretty young. If Kerr did not care about the record he could have just rest them for the final game against Memphis which means they would have a week off before game 1 next weekend

Look... if you had one shot... or one opportunity

... to seize everything you ever wanted... in one moment....

Would you capture it?

Or just let it slip?

When did it be ok in the NBA to rest star players multiple games in the season?

Thanks Lebron!

Bulls lost 2 or 3 games the last 2-3 weeks in '96. It was more of them getting bored and ready for the playoffs than it was being tired.

I do think the NBA needs to cut back on a few games and not have as many back to back games though. They need to let them be more physical too, but that ain't happnin.

Good luck Dubs ;)

They lost 2 games in the last couple weeks (both at home, by 1 point each).

One difference though is that the record at that time was 69. Going into the final 2 weeks of the season... all they had to do was win 3 out of 8 to get the record.

Last 2 weeks for Warriors... they have to win 6 out of 8 to get the record. Different pressure, IMO.

And then the Bulls lost 1 game in the entire Eastern conference playoffs in OT vs the Knicks until they reached the Finals, where they went up 3-0 on Seattle and again.. got bored, lost 2 in a row. Then hammered the SuperSonics in game 6. :thumb:

anything that gets the more drained physically and mentally before the playoffs even win is good with me....what does their road look like right now in all likelihood? Dallas, Clippers, Spurs/OKC, Cavs? ......should be interesting.

i think they should go for the record though.

Excactly. It's not that important. The playoffs are what matter most.

They should go for it.

1st round of the playoffs is 7 games. They will get plenty of time to rest after they close out either the Mavs or Jazz in that series in 5 games.

This is history. This is a chance to always be a team that is mentioned 25 years from now. When is the last time you heard someone talk about the '79 Sonics team? Winning an NBA championship doesn't guarantee you will be remembered. You think 25-35 years down the road anyone will talk about the Dallas Mav's and Dirk Nowiztki? Nope. Just a footnote that someone will have to research if they want to know anything about it.

IMO GS pulling off this win total is actually more important historically than winning a championship this season. They have their championship from last year. Match that with a historical win total and they lock up a place in the collective NBA consciousness more than they would if they pull off a back to back championships without the historical win total.

Goes back farther than Pop. Riley did this with the Showtime Lakers.

Really? I didn't know that. Anything pre-90's I only know from history. Always hear "back in the day players never rested games. If they could walk, they played"

Doubt they break the record now given they have 2 game vs. the Spurs, they should still hit 70 wins which is nothing to sneeze at.

They have to go for the record. Here is why:

1) The team is finally getting healthy. Ezeli and Iguodala have just come back from significant layoffs due to injury. Bogut was out for a while. The team needs time to mesh again and find their rhythm. Last night against the T-Wolves you could tell Iguodala was a step slow and mentally not up to speed with the game. He needs time to adjust with the first group again. Ezeli also needs to get his conditioning up to game speed. These two guys are going to be vital to the success of the team in the playoffs.

2) People view this situation as mentally draining on the team, and while it might be, it serves as some adversity for the Warriors to face, which they have not all season. The playoffs are a different animal and the Warriors will get to face a fresh team every game, with at least a day off in between every game. Testing them before it actually counts will help bring back their edge.

3) With 4 games to go and needing to win all of them to set the record, it now puts their back up against the wall and could be a unifying point in their season. So far they've coasted for most of the year, but they're going to have to get up for these games. There are plenty of games that the Warriors won this year that they should not have. Those are not going to happen in the playoffs. They're going to have to earn each victory and play 48 minutes every night.

4) Even if they tie the Bulls record, that's a great accomplishment for what was otherwise known as one of the untouchable records. To be mentioned with that Bulls team and Michael Jordan, that's an honor in itself.

5) Worst case scenario is that if they do lose, the Warriors still cannot completely rest players, because going back to my 1st point. The team needs to build that cohesion they had for the majority of the year when they were dominant. They simply don't have that right now, mostly because of injury.

The Warriors need to go after the record much more than they need to rest players.
