Guess vasyunov was called up the other day to play in place of jj who was banged up in the sharks game.also Fraser was placed in ir pending surgery to install a pin in his hand.no work on corrente hand yet but it seems eckford will be playing tonight.

On the NHL website under the devils page it stated that Corrente broke his left hand in the game against San Jose.

The Devils announced Thursday that defenseman Matt Corrente suffered a broken left hand in Wednesday’s game at San Jose. They have recalled blueliner Tyler Eckford from Albany (AHL) under emergency conditions.

Eckford, 25, has two assists and a plus-2 rating in six games this season with the Devils’ top affiliate. He debuted in New Jersey last season, recording one assist in three appearances. The Vancouver native recorded career highs of eight goals and 31 points in Lowell last year, and was the AHL Devils' lone representative in the 2010 AHL All-Star Game.

The Devils have also recalled left wing Alexander Vasyunov. The 22-year-old made his NHL debut against Buffalo on Oct. 23. He has one assist in five games with Albany.

Vasyunov played really well tonight, earned some top6 play time while he was at it.

I was most impressed with him at the end of the game. 1 minute remaining and he goes to block a point shot from the ducks. He then eventually got the puck and gently pushed the puck to the opposing blue line and went for a change. Wasn't this guy supposed to be bad in his own end when he was drafted?

It doesn't matter how bad your defense is if the Devils draft you. They breed defensive prowess.
