The fact that Shero even gave him that shows the mentality the team is taking with him. I don't know what he wants I guess. Man. That said, the dude is getting married tomorrow, so I doubt he's really thinking about this right now.

I'm not buying the validity of this tweet. Staal is preparing to walk down the aisle this weekend. I Don't think this (contract) is his #1 priority at the moment.

I'm also not buying this because Shero has said multiple times the "facts" the media bandies about with is mostly bullshit.

I usually trust Blob the most...but there are a few things I question:

1) Shero giving out a 10 year deal. That's very unlike him. VERY unlike him. To add onto this, the tweet said "not signing and extension now." I take that as "he doesn't want a 10 year deal". Not necessarily that "he doesn't want to be in Pittsburgh.

2) Obviously most players are likely tempted by FA because it's often their shot at a big payday, and the Pens couldn't match what many other teams could...but I never got that inkling from this until now.

3) Nothing has ever been mentioned about Staal wanting to be out of the shadows (when honestly, he's great at the role he plays), until now...days before a big trade time of the year.

Most of me thinks this is a way to keep things interesting.

@molinaripg: Have confirmed Bob McKenzie's report. Staal did turn down a 10-year offer from the Penguins.

I feel like we're dual-threading now.

Yeah...said this in the other thread too:

I think it may be a power play by the Staal camp...guys will say "I'm gonna test FA!" just to get a better deal. Also, it's a year before his contract is up...who says that knowing the rumor mill would start? Then it's just awkward for a year.

@MikeColligan
Staal's agent said he wouldn't comment on negotiations out of "respect for the process", either he lost respect or team wants info out there

Or it's a power play by the Pens? Well we all know that will end with no goal and too much passing.

Could be.

Or it could be the answer to the question everyone has been asking... does Staal like his role as the 3rd line center?

Shooting down a decade deal to remain in Pittsburgh kinda answers that, IMO.

See, this is why I had a hard time buying Blob's tweet, earlier. Where would he get this info from? Staal's camp has been tight lipped about this for a while now.

Molinari is legit, though. I believe what he says.

I fucking hate this, though.

I know Staal is not a 3rd line centre likely anywhere else but Pittsburgh, but that's a ton of cabbage to be turning down...

Also: 10 years is a long time. I may not sign that deal if I'm him. Everyone wants some flexibility. Who knows.

From LeBrun

From Jordan Staal's agent Paul Krepelka: "He is not prepared to enter into a contract extension at this time."

How much is Staal realistically worth in a trade this summer? Is Carolina the only likely destination? Would a team trade for him even if they don't know how likely it would be that they could get him to sign an extension?

These are some of the questions swirling through my brain at the moment... :tsk:
