Another good point: CBA talks. Jordan may want to wait. Makes some sense.

If he's going to be traded, I'm just hoping the Pens and J-Staal camps can work out some sort of sign-and-trade to get maximum return for the Pens.

I'm not concerned. He's over a year away from free agency and there's a CBA between now and then.

He doesn't want to be a third line center so depending on what happens with Crosby's health and Malkin he will not be in Pittsburgh for the long term.

I know the Sabres are going to try and get a top line center so it's possible the Sabres could be in the mix for him or Nash. Just a thought. Keep in mind the Sabres have 4 of the first 44 selections this year so a deal is possible,

He's overrated.

:p.. Definitely think he could be a 2 somewhere. Guys got skill. Don't blame him in the least for not wanting to sign in Pittsburgh and play behind 2 guys. He's got a cup, time to see what he can do.

this is way to much for him

I don't think it is, really. Staal is a guy who will be in the prime of his career for at least the next eight seasons. He is more than capable of being a top line center, and his versatility is unreal. Top penalty killer, capable power play skill and his most dynamic ability is to play against the opponents top scoring line.

There are maybe 2 or 3 other centers in the league that come close to his versatility. His size alone make him pretty rare. He's worth a very good return if you want him in October with a year remaining.

Staal doesn't get hurt any more than any other hockey player in the league. He got stepped on once, took a puck to the hand once, and got knee'd the other time. Before those injuries (all close to eachother) he was the ironman of the Pens. Missed zero games until Slewban sliced him.

I saw that... Martin = Sargent Turnover?

Probably not as bad as he's made out to be. I just think it's the aggressive forechecking he's asked to reinforce, and his skill-set doesn't fit the system. Martin is not worth the 5 million dollar hit he's playing for, is basically what it comes down to.

how's he like playing wing?

I know J.R. has said outright that his goal this year it to actually get a top tier guy to play with Staal finally. And has even tossed his hat in the ring in the Nash sweepstakes...

But the Bros on a line together is mighty tempting...

Uhh, been there done that. Well, at least all his coaches have been mighty hesitant to put him there. His best offensive season was at wing with Geno his rookie year (think he put up more points this year, less goals). He excells at C, but can be used at wing...just a risk.
