I like Baldwin quite a bit and I think he is one of the only truly talented players in our current WR corps. I think Boldin, Baldwin, and Patton are the only WR we have currently that actually look the part.
Patton now is out with a foot injury. I think the 9ers need Baldwin to step up big time and continue the game plan of old....pound the ground...Gore has proven he still has one more year at least.

Frank still has it going on, BUT don't overdue it and wear him down.

I still have a feeling that Baldwin is going to contribute here.

Jon Baldwin - WR - 49ers

Coach Jim Harbaugh said "there'll be more action" for Jon Baldwin moving forward.

Baldwin made his 49ers debut Thursday night after being inactive for the first three weeks following the trade with the Chiefs. He caught two passes for 19 yards. With Quinton Patton (foot) out indefinitely, Baldwin and Kyle Williams will likely see the bulk of the snaps opposite Anquan Boldin.

I'm still waiting for some deep jump balls to Baldwin.

I would love to see that. I just want home to start and play 70% of plays. Is that too much to ask?

It's not enough to ask IMO.

Baldwin is at least a big, fast target who can jump. Other than Boldin & possibly Baldwin, the Niners don't have dick at WR right now.

Why don't I ever remember so many positions on the team being scary thin like this before? Are the injuries really that bad this year?

QB a couple years ago. Also when Kevin Barlow was our starting back.

Because we have done a piss poor job at drafting WRs. That shit eventually catches up to you. Patton might be good but now he's injured.

I wonder if Kaep could throw a jump ball 25-30 yards downfield. Every time he throws it in that range, it's 10 feet off the ground at it's peak.

I disagree we do a piss poor job of drafting WRs. I think we do a piss poor job of developing them. There's no way we can miss this many times at one position, over multiple "shot callers."

Other than Crabtree, who is the best WR we have drafted in in the last 15 years? Tai Streets? Kyle Williams?

If that were true, wouldn't 49er receivers be doing much better on other teams?

AJ Jenkins (1st round) - dog poop
Ronald Johnson (6th round) - what do you expect in the 6th round?
Kyle Williams (6th round) - Rabbit poop
Josh Morgan - (6th round) better than Kyle & a good pick but not a great one.
Jason Hill (3rd round) - worthless
Brandon Williams (3rd round) - worthless
Rasheed Marshall (5th round) - worthless (and a mind-bogglingly annoying pick)
Marcus Maxwell (7th round) - Wortless, but a 7th rounder.

...And then there was the Donahue era.

Here's the list of WRs we have drafted after the 3rd round in 1996 (Owens). The round the player was drafted is in parentheses.

1996 - Iheanyi Uwaezuoke (5)
1998 - Ryan Thelwell (7th) - had a decent career with the BC Lions
1999 - Tai Streets (7th, although was a first round talent before blowing out achilles pre-draft)
2001 - Cedrick Wilson(6th)
2003 - Brandon Lloyd (4th)
2003 - Arnaz Battle (6th)
2004 - Rashaun Woods (1st)
2004 - Derek Hamilton (3rd)
2005 - Rasheed Marshall (5th)
2005 - Marcus Maxwell (7th)
2006 - Brandon Williams (3rd)
2007 - Jason Hill (3rd)
2008 - Josh Morgan (6th)
2009 - Michael Crabtree (1st)
2010 - Kyle Williams (6th)
2011 - Ronald Johnson (6th)
2012 - AJ Jenkins (1st)
2013 - Quinton Patton (4th)

If I had to rank a top 5 from that it would be:
1. Crabtree
2. Streets (based on performance as a Niner vs Lloyd)
3. Lloyd
4/5/6/7. Williams/Battle/Wilson/Morgan (At this point, does it really matter? None are actually good).

That's 16 WRs (not counting Patton) three of whom can be described with adjectives that are somewhat better than "not good." One of whom can be described as being anything even resembling "good." Two were decent at best.

Of that list Streets, Lloyd, Morgan and Patton are the only ones I actually liked when drafted. They drafted a lot of turds which as you know can't be polished. I was on the fence about Crabs but the dude finally developed. I'm still livid we didn't draft Baldwin.

Dear Kyle: right now you are jostling with Brandon and Andrew as the worst 49ers Williams of the last decade (Jimmy was here for like a week so he doesn't count). Please stop being a waste of a roster space. Thanks.
