That is part of the problem with this movie. Gaga is obviously a great singer, but she's also a capable actor, but the director had very little for her other than singing, the story constrained her character.

And that mindset, that hive, created this movie. This was created by a bunch of drama kids who know that their shit don’t stink. From Phoenix to Phillips to WB to DC. They don’t have any idea what the fans want. And quite frankly, they don’t care. They need to “stay true to the craft”.
