I don't disagree. I would too. But I'll take OBP, and ops over batting average any day.

I do like OBP and OPS, but I rather have a guy with a great batting avg. Think about this. First of, at some point in the game, you are going to need a guy to actually hit the ball. is a tied game in the seventh, runners on first and second, two outs. Are you looking for the guy to draw the walk or the guy that will actually hit the ball into play and get you those runs?

Also as a fan, I want to see hits, not walks. Think of Dana White with the UFC, he wants to see his fighters hit the shit out of each other, why cause that is what fans want. No one goes to a game saying, "hey dad, I hope we get to see Adam Dunn walk twice today!". This whole new sabermetrics is part of the reason that baseball keeps declining in popularity.

This whole new sabermetrics is part of the reason that baseball keeps declining in popularity.

And the cost of playing the sport.

And the fact that kids hardly play outside at all, much less 18 or more of them, and, if they did, they would not all want to play baseball.

And the fact that, as time goes by, more people tend to suffer from A.D.D, and baseball games can be very long endevors.

And, with so many signle mom housholds, who teaches junior to play? Probably not mom, NOT from lack of skill necessarily, but from lack of time, with her likely having two jobs and all.

I could think of more.

Sadly.

This statement invalidates everything you just said. Pure ignorance.

Iron horse, i have seen you debate this on CBS... But what you dont understand is that statistics measures the eye test... Walks were always part of the game and was always an important statistic... But now with OBP and other statistics we can put a value on the importance of it... Stats are not there to tell us who is good and who is not it is only putting a value to it so we can express it logically without saying silly comments like i saw this guy get a hit yesterday, therefore he is good... The problem has never been the stats, the problem is how some of use these stats!!!

When you have a guy that is going in there, thinking he is going to get his two strikes first before he even thinks of taking a swing you have a problem. Pitchers are already taking 25 plus seconds between pitches. The batter steps out of the batter's box every single in between pitch, is madness. Take a swing! That's why the game was made! When the first people that started playing the game, I am sure their idea wasn't to see which team could get most walks. I love guys like Ichiro, Vlad and Soriano, take a hack, that's why you got into the game in the first place. Is the sound of the crack of the bat, not the sound of a guy talking his four balls.

I get that sabermetrics have value. I never have claimed they don't. But I think they are valued too much. Is like I say, we can break all those stats down to the minutiae. But it doesn't make it more fun for the general fan. Is like going to see the new Fast and Furious movie. And I go and I tell you, well the director Justin Lin and the DP Stephen Windon used a lot of rack focus to set the insert shots. i did like how they transition many of the scenes using L cuts. And the use of film stocks, oh the 500t and then 250d for those flashback scenes, really awesome. But I did notice they did cross the line on a couple of shots. You know, who cares. Again, I get that they have a value, and they play a roll in the game, but they are overvalued, and they are used way too often when you are just trying to enjoy the game.

Probably no love then for Mike "The human rain delay" Hargrove as a player then?

:burt:

I definitely do not see your metaphor... but that is irrelevant... I will repeat, there is no problem with any statistic, the problem is how some people use them... I understand u are the type of person who believes simple stats are best... but will you at least agree that more advanced stats give a more accurate analysis?? whether you use them or not is up to you!!! Once again statstics are just a way to put a number to what we are thinking and watching... do you realize that even wins/losses and win percentage is a stat??

I acknowledge they have a purpose and numbers are stats, and can give a better value. But me? I am fine with avg. HRs, RBIs, and slugging. When you get into babip and this and the other. Sorry, I already took all the math classes I wanted to take in school. And hey, the Giants don't care for Sabermetrics, and it has worked out for them really well. I just wish they weren't so prominent in the game. Take a step back on them.

not sure why u believe the giants dont care for sabremetrics... alll teams use a little advanced statistics to create their team... not sure how else u can justify the moves they make and the salaries they pay...
