I see where you're coming from, but based on that assessment of how recruiting works, I'd have to expect that Michigan State will begin to gain an edge over Michigan now......

I mean it is obvious which program is performing and which is not.

But it won't change anything. Michigan will continue to get the talent and Michigan State will continue to outperform them.

All we have to do is put together a couple of 11 win seasons and at the worst 10 wins. Once the media sees Nebraska quietly putting together wins and not embarrassing itself the recruits will come.
let's be honest our coaches are not gonna blaze the recruiting field or are they gonna coach up the talent we have. So the best bet is hope we can squeeze out 2 more wins than usual

seeing 11-2 is alot better than a struggling 9-4. our best bet is to win and they will come

Michigan IS showing the effects of it's play in recruiting.

Hoke's lost a lot of believers the last couple of years. What you don't see Hoke doing is keeeping "friends" employed at all costs. He fired his offensive coordinator. He made a major change.

What in theeee hell are you smokin RA?

4th, 2nd, and so far 20th this season is fantastic!

They have only taken 16 so far this year.....that's why they're a bit lower. There is a 5-star and several 4-stars amongst that group. Either they are taking less this year or they will still be taking more......either way, they have not dropped off in picking up talent one bit.

There are a number of factors that go into a kid and his parents choosing a school.

Education, national exposure, whether he's going to be coached up to his potential, and whether he'll be on a team that has a coach who can put all the pieces together and compete with the best. Nebraska hasn't had the coach to put all the pieces together in a long time.

Maybe it's just been a learning process for Pelini and staff, and year 7 will be the year.
-------
While TO did have some ranked recruiting classes, one of his bigger assets was having assistants that could coach the talent he had to a higher level. That is lackiing with this bunch of coaches. I also do not believe that this set of caoches (as been mentioned before) put much empasis on S&C. Finally, while we still have a mainline into Texas recruiting wise, we seemed to have lost some steam in getting as many recruits from California & Florida.

They were a lot higher earlier in the season. They lost a handful of commits when when the struggles began to appear.

Michigan was down to 27th per Scout when RichRod was fired.

It's really more about the perception of the direction a program is going more than you think. Another bad year by Hoke and you'll see that drop further.

Hoke may come off as a big idiot, but at least he's a nice idiot capable of recognizing a problem area and addressing it without being a bloviatiing, spit spewing jerk.

I would suggest dropping from 2nd to 20th in just one year is a huge drop and one of the reasons Hoke got rid of his OC. That and the abysmal record they had this year.

And for what it's worth I don't expect that kind of recruiting from our coaching staff. I just expect our staff to be able to do a far better job of coaching.

We get enough 3 star recruits (for whatever that's worth) that we SHOULD be doing better than 9-4/10-3 everyyear if they are being taught right.

Yea but.......you guys aren't listening.....

Michigan only has 16 commits so far........which means likely they are not going to take as many guys this year.......because they can't.

They are averaging 3.56 stars a recruit. That is excellent.

Tennessee, the team that is #2 this season, is averaging 3.45 stars a player. Florida State, the team that is #4 this season, is averaging 3.52 stars a player.

You can't just look at the ranking and make your final assessment. The amount of players committed plays the biggest part in the ranking. Just look at UCLA this year......they're #23 overall. Has UCLA fallen off recently? No. But UCLA is in a similar position.....they were #3 last year, and only have 16 commits so far this year.

LSU only has 18 commits is ranked 7th and averages 3.94 stars per player.

bleh bleh bleh

Michigan has had decommits and this class is currently down. Their last 2 classes (Hoke's first two classes) had higher averages.

One thing is other schools can argue the two gap against him. The other I think is he is getting talent it just takes so long for them to either learn his system or develop sometimes they just don't get it in time to make a mark.

Nebraska defense this year didn't use much two gap. The biggest problem this year was on the dline early on was the young kids are just learning about pad level and hand placement. Pelini used more one gap schemes and I believe he will continue to do so. The young DT's got a lot of PT this year and that bodes well for Pelini. Nebraska needs one more difference maker up front and look out for this defense next year. I think they will find one at DT next year and if Gregory learns a few more pass rush skills the front seven will be very scary. Plus, they finally figure out the linebackers half way through.

Nebraska had some big time recruits in that weekend and once SE came out and made a statement in favor of Pelini we gain a lot of quality recruits the next week. The speculation on Pelini job status had more to do with recruits and parents then ever has his on the field antics.
