I'm just messin with ye fellers.

The only thing I've said lately that I truly believe is that Nebraska is not the powerhouse that we perceive it as. I'm just starting to realize it.

Like I said during that argument, I respect your opinions on the matter.

The product on the field isn't a "powerhouse", no.

The "program" still is.

Same with Michigan or Texas. Their product on the field isn't good, but their programs (backbone) is still there. Nebraska is still a blueblood program like Oklahoma who's also not located on a beach.

The exposure an athlete gets here is the same as any other storied program.

A beach doesn't win Heisman's, Conference, or National Championships. A beach doesn't make tackles, block, throw passes, catch passes, or run the ball.

Good/Well coached athletes do.

I understand that RA........I was an athlete once myself.

But what doesn't seem to make sense is how Michigan, Texas, Oklahoma, etc....continue to murder us in recruiting. This isn't something that just started happening.......it has always happened.

Sure Texas is in a recruiting hotbed........Michigan really isn't though. They've managed top 10 classes multiple times over the past decade.

A lot of recruiting......no, actually most of recruiting.....comes down to how a program is perceived overall. I don't think the rest of the country takes our program as seriously as we do. I am starting to think we are all just very biased.

There are a number of factors that go into a kid and his parents choosing a school.

Education, national exposure, whether he's going to be coached up to his potential, and whether he'll be on a team that has a coach who can put all the pieces together and compete with the best. Nebraska hasn't had the coach to put all the pieces together in a long time.

Maybe it's just been a learning process for Pelini and staff, and year 7 will be the year.

See, to me this has less to do with Pelini. This has seriously gone on forever.

We used to just rely on walk-ons and kern fed boys........but we can't anymore. We have never recruited here well. Callahan got a few bluechips when he started handing out duffle bags filled with cash, but other than that we have always been a 3-star kind of program.

We always get a couple really good running backs......a couple decent Defensive recruits.....and then just work with what we have otherwise.

Bullshit, Bullshit, Bullshit.

Recruiting is a skill that hopefully Pelini's program will gain. Of course winning helps but Osborne said back in the 90s he lost a lot of recruits because they thought there was "a bunch of supermen here"and were afraid they wouldn't get to play at Nebraska.

But if you build it they will come. Pelini hasn't built it yet[/].

Average class rankings;

Osborne (11 classes, 29 data points): 14.90

Solich: (6 classes, 27 data points): 20.19

Callahan: (4 classes, 24 data points): 18.00

Pelini: (5 classes, 19 data points): 23.89

A Brief History of Husker Recruiting Rankings: 1987-2012

Don't get me wrong, Osborne could develop players but he recruited raw talent too.

Hard to isolate to one thing. He's got talent, but it's not deep. Education's not an issue. Parent and athlete perception of Bo personally probably plays a part in "no interest". He's percieved as a hot headed jerk nationally. The program doesn't play elite football under Bo and that's how it's perceived nationally. They struggle with very average programs. More often than not they do get the win, but it's not a convincing win.

The thing that confuses me more than anything is the DT position. How the hell can a guy who coached Dorsey and Suh not have the best DT's in the land want to play for him? Why has he been unable to develop one since?

One thing is other schools can argue the two gap against him. The other I think is he is getting talent it just takes so long for them to either learn his system or develop sometimes they just don't get it in time to make a mark.
