:omg:

We should have a baseball history board.

Tris is only behind Yaz and Williams for Boston outfielders. And among all Sox, he would still be top ten - and maybe top five (imo).....

The closest I have found comes from a single fan, and, who only posts on the Rockies team board. I think his name is Soxfan 1967 or some such. He does a "this day in baseball history" thread, which always has a good info nugget or two.

I used to do one over on CBS, but as I did not do it each and every day, it kind of fell out of favor.

Ok Bobby Doerr vs Dustin Pedroia your opinion

You had me at "Hello"...

My current favorite Sox and their greatest 2Bin history!

Pedroia has a chance to get close, but Doerr was a 9 time All Star and had 6 seasons with 100 RBI.

I love showing the 1946 MVP voting. Doerr was 3rd, behind Williams & Newhouser - but eight Red Sox recived votes and 7 were in the top 13!

This is the exact opposite of what a baseball fan should think...

I would think fans in Cleveland would be upset over this slight of their team's history. Without baseball history the game has little meaning...

And, who gets a statue while they are alive?? What if Thome goes on to become a serial rapist?... I was actually a little upset that Boston added a Yaz statue... But at least they already had their all-time greats immortalized.

I think each baseball fan is entitled to think what they want to think but to each their own.

Two of what I always thought as undervalued players in Doerr and Newhouser. Doerr being the forgotten Red Sox and Newhouser's three year run.

Hank Aaron, Johnny Bench, Cal Ripken, Willie Mays, Rocky Balboa.... :D

Even though it is fairly common practice these days, I see your point.

I just thought of a better Cleveland statue, one that sadly will never come to be.

How about one of Albert "Don't EVER call me Joey" Belle bowling over little Fernando Vina like a linebacker in 1996?

Isn't he still under contract with Baltimore?

Would like to see Thome come back as a coach someday. He would make a good hitting coach.

I just rattled off some names that popped into my head.... I could have added Griffey.

The main thing is, we can never definitely tell who used or who didn't... If you examine baseball history, you'll notice that 50 HR is a huge, huge number. It is very, very rare to see that number (Hank Aaron hit 44 a few times, but that was his highest)... If you can hit 40 in a year, that is a great season... When suddenly, 5-10 players are hitting 50 on a regular basis, you know someting is amiss... People laughed at Jose Canseco when he said 80-90% of league was on something. I looked around and said, 'damn, he's probably right!'...

So, now I just assume 'everyone' was using and I don't let it bother me....

Well you can only go by who we have proof of using them, it isn't fair to the players who didn't. Thome was always a big guy, he gained weight over his career and a lot in the stomach. Not saying he used em or didn't. But he we don't have proof then why worry about it.

He was one of the best pure homerun hitters of all-time. Congrats to Thome!
