Agree with Jerry here. Keep in mind this article was written before Kirks performance today.

There is a middle road dad. Jay needs to learn that.

again there is a middle road but it wont be taken as such . wanna bet on that ? no matter what he says or doesnt say some one will make something out of it that it shouldnt

KC struggled 2 weeks in a row . he cant carry the team and guys like morris need to step up but didnt . kerrigan was a ghost as was pot roast , baker , smith , . 2 weeks in a row the defense gets eaten up vs the rush . 2 weeks in a row the o/line cant run block

you cant ask KC to carry the team . he isnt ready to and may never be able too

None of what you say is wrong. And that is even a bigger reason that Jay needs to be smarter with his pressers exactly because they will be parsed.

Honestly it's a bit bizarre. Dont need to throw a player under the bus to say, 'Kirk had a poor game and needs to play better' and move on.

It would be refreshing if he said what you've written here, but talking about the wind and such is.....well.....you've said it best again, bizarre!!

4 receivers running 6 yard patterns. Is anyone really wondering why the Redskins running game has been jammed up? Defenses are crowding the LOS for obvious reasons. But I'm sure the return if DJax will change all that.

Honestly - who really cares what Gruden says in his press conferences? Belichick probably gives the worst press conferences in all of sports & who cares? It is all about results.

Gruden could come out in his press conferences and tell all of us to F off. However - if he was showing consistent results on the field I would praise him nonstop. To this extent - sure there have been some positives this season but certainly not enough to date to say that this guy is a legit NFL coach. Granted injuries and rebuilding are responsible for a lot of this, but you certainly have to put some of the blame on Gruden.

If he is going to stake his future to Cousins then he needs to take the blame when the guy falls short. Ditto for other issues - like it or not. If you are going to state that all/most of the issues are the fault of the players - great - then please tell me the purpose of having a coach. Oh well - not asking for Gruden's head at this pt, but the guy needs to step up & at least get this team to play to its potential (even if it is somewhat limited).

I agree with SoCal, I never listen to press conferences because it's just canned BS. I'm convinced all this excuse making is a direct result of having his knuckles snapped for going off on Griffin. But seriously, citing the wind yesterday is pretty lame.

And frankly so is referencing the injuries. If the backup corners had gotten toasted and the pass protection was non-existent I could see it. But the failures yesterday had more to do with the regulars not getting it done as the backups not playing well.

Good God Scott find us some safeties.

I think part of the problem though is that he has still ripped on other players. He just protects Cousins as much as he can.

Well - if that is truly his approach then they might be reunited elsewhere in the very near future - one as an asst coach & the other holding a clipboard on the sideline. Unless someone is a true superstar you can't play favorites in this manner (if this is indeed what Gruden is doing - hard to really tell based on limited info).

Tandler with some positive stats...

News, notes, and numbers on Jets 34, Redskins 20

—Bashaud Breeland recovered two fumbles and intercepted a pass against the Jets. He became the second player to do that this season, along the Darrelle Revis of the Jets. Breeland is the first Redskins player do to so since at least the 2000 season.

—The Redskins turned Breeland’s first takeaway, a fumble recovery at the Jets’37-yard line. It was the first time the Redskins had scored a touchdown in the series immediately following a turnover in 29 opportunities to do so. That came on December 22, 2013 against the Cowboys when they drove 33 yards for a touchdown after Josh Wilson recovered a fumble.

—In the fourth quarter Jeron Johnson blocked a punt in the end zone and Rashad Ross fell on it in the end zone for a touchdown. It was Ross’ second special teams TD of the year, the first coming in the same end zone of the same stadium in Week 3 against the Giants when he returned a kickoff 101 yards for a touchdown.

—It was the Redskins’ first blocked punt since Vernon Fox got one on December 24, 2006.

—Ross scored the Redskins’ first touchdown on a blocked punt since Walt Harris scored one against the Lions in 2004. That’s a span of 174 games.

—Dustin Hopkins’ 54-yard field goal in the second quarter was a career long (sample size alert, his career is only five games old). It was his second one of over 50 yards in two weeks. Hopkins hit one from 52 yards last week in Atlanta to tie the game at the end of regulation.

Excerpt

The Redskins are not running the ball and it's hurting the entire team. It's hurting Kirk Cousins, it's hurting the defense and it's hurting the play-calling. I made this point after the Redskins lost to the Falcons in overtime and the reaction I received is what inspired this new "Fun Bunch" series. The Redskins swiped Bill Callahan from the Cowboys, gave him a No. 5 overall pick and told him to go to work. For two weeks, it worked great. The Redskins were running well, controlling the clock, and actually had an identity. That identity is gone. The Redskins yards per carry average is low and keeping the team behind the sticks. That puts the ball in Cousins hands more. Not ideal. I said it last week, the Redskins are not giving Cousins a game he can manage. More on Cousins' performance in a moment.

* I see a theory being floated around Twitter that the Redskins can't run because Cousins is so bad. That teams are stacking the box with eight defenders because they aren't afraid of Cousins' arm. Boiled down, that opinion means you can't have a good run game if you don't have a good quarterback. Which, of course, is ridiculous. Teams ARE stacking the box against the Redskins to stop the run but it's quite common around the league on obvious running downs. Teams are always trying to stop the run. No one fears Alex Smith's arm but Jamal Charles happens. No one fears Fitzpatrick's arm but Chris Ivory happens. No one fears Kaepernick's arm but Carlos Hyde happens. No one fears Nick Foles' arm but Todd Gurley is happening. See what I'm getting at? Running against an eight-man box isn't pretty. You're not going to get a body on a body. But if you're imposing your will, you have five mean, nasty OL pushing defenders into defenders, you're knocking people down, and you are creating lanes for your RB to find. And for the hype the fan base has for Callahan, it should be happening here. The running game is struggling yet he appears to be untouchable.
