After today's win, Jesus Montero is batting .286 since being called up. Now I know it's a very small sample size, but considering how productive (not counting JJ) the call ups have been this year I think he may have found a spot in the order for the near future. I'm just afraid that when guy's such as Smoak or Hart come back Montero will be the fall guy. We know what we have in those bats, and if Montero can at least hover around .270 it will be a mistake sending him down. I'm just not sure who gets that call otherwise?

I'm hopeful of course...but without looking at his stats and just his at bats you would think he was batting .180

We'll see how he does though. But his approach so far at the plate doesn't give me any confidence that he will maintain a decent average

I have to admit, every time I see him at the plate it surprises the hell out of me as to how big he has gotten. He is carrying some serious weight, but as long as he is swinging the bat I could give two shits.

He is doing what I said he could do if called up (yes I am taking credit for him...lol). My biggest issue with him right now is that he is giving away AB's by reaching for pitches early in the count and hitting little grounders. I want him taking good, strong swings (not over swinging, just not reaching out in front) even if it means a few more K's and lowering his average a bit. Him walking or getting little singles isn't what we need from him. I think one issue is that he isn't getting consistent AB's only playing every othr game or so. It probably doesn't matter because I see him, Romero, and Gillispie heading out in the next two weeks with the boys coming back.

far too early to know anything other than he can potentially hit for a lot of power

his lazy fat ass is a liability in every other aspect of the game, at the plate or on the field

I said that you don't want to see him in the field. He scares the heck out of me at 1B. He is an average defensive DH...lol. If he could hit .260 with 25 homers, he would be the best M's DH since the greatest DH of all time....EDGAR!

Montero's sample size is so small that if he goes 0-4 tomorrow, his BA drops to .200. I'd wait to pass judgement on Montero's call up.

Sample size may be small, but the DH bar has been set pretty low.

That's for sure. I'd be content with the type of production he had in 2012, but with how he played in 2013 and 2014 in AAA, I'm skeptical if he can even match that production.

Perhaps someone on here can slip some HGH, Tren and a new workout routine into his locker. I doubt he's juicing as he would probably be losing fat if he was.

He needs some hydroxicut it works per all the late night commercials. Funny thing about the dough-boy is that he actually looks like he is running faster than he did his rookie year.

Montero to Tacoma and Saunders to be activated Friday. No big surprise since he barely played. When you use Bloomquist, Buck, and then Chavez at DH in consecutive games, you know you aren't going to be around very long.

Add the skipper of the big club really doesn't care for the guy to begin with...

What I don't get is why the player development group just gave up on him? His circumstances are different than Edgar but he should be a guy who is Edgaresque. Edgar's philosophy to hitting was simple, he'd walk up to bat with only one pitch he would even swing at until there were two strikes. Jesus should be in the cage doing the exact same thing Edgar did in BP where he would go through 2 bucket of balls during his turn.

he's a naturally big thick guy. he has dropped a lot of fat since spring training and it looks like he's been doing some good work with weights to get some good body recomp going.

he was at his best a couple of years ago when he was out every day on the field running/jogging before and after practice.

he'll probably go to an org that holds their kids accountable, and become a competent hitter.

Agreed. I just think he wants out of Seattle so pissing them off was his way of forcing a trade. I still like the kid and think he can be a good DH for years to come if given some AB's. He did improve on his running style though so there is that.

I agree with Wazzu that if he took on Edgar's approach of looking for his one pitch until 2 strikes and hammering it he could put up good numbers. And the funny thing is he has Edgar around I am guessing to show him the way.

Is Edgar involved with the organization like Wilson and Buhner are? I guess Griffey technically is but I haven't even heard of anything he does.

I don't know that, but would think he would be happy to mentor him if asked. He seems like that kind of guy. Griffey, funny. He said he flies to different levels and talks to the kids for a few days. He said nobody ever approaches him the first day because they are afraid to, but then they get the courage up. I just laughed when I heard that. Not my favorite ex-Mariner which is sad because he was my favorite Mariner until he wanted out and then pushed for another year after he came back.
