Reasons for optimism on the DL:

No more broken Cam and injured Baker

Healthy Thad for the first time ever, bringing a lot of experience

Long time starter in Jason Ankrah

SOME (not much) experience last year for Curry/Moss

Randy Gregory looks like a dominate speed rusher

Kaz is a better DL coach than any we've had since Bo took over

McMullen/Moss/Curry/Valentine all made waves in practice last year

Reasons to be worried:

TOO DAMN YOUNG AND NO DEPTH

I really really really hope my instincts are wrong but the way I see it we have all the ingredients in hand to make up a DL for next year that could be worse than last years train wreck, just by depth and inexperience alone. On the other hand, there's five more fingers, but also it could be good in that most of them weren't a part of that train wreck.

Hard to get worse than last year, but our DL recruiting has been so incredibly bad as FBnut pointed out.

Kevin Williams doesn't impress me. Vincent Valentine doesn't impress me.

I like Moss, I like Randle, I like Curry. Gregory needs to handle his business and get here, because he is the best JUCO defensive linemen Nebraska has went after since JPP.

I really like coach K, I think he's going to end up getting pigeonholed by Papoopy and Bo's grossly inadequate recruiting and coaching

I get the hot poop thinking about that very feat

Huskers/Chargers fan eh?

Born & raised in Big Red country but lived in San Diego during the "Air Coryell" era. They never did go all the way but boy were they fun to watch.

I have concerns that Gregory will end up being a bust........don't know why, just do.

I guess for one thing it looks like he's blowing by Junior High players in his videos, and those videos are all we have to go off of.

If you smoke weed, snort ambien, and shoot vodka into your veins then you and Brasky would practically be twins.

Bo teaches a scheme that is non existent in CFB, and a relic in the NFL.

There are maybe 2 teams who run the 2 gap in the NFL and they aint even good.

Still, it's extremely effective in terms of pass defense. Run defense? Clearly not so much.

Nebraska didn't really face any good ground games in the big 12. They neutralized offenses that were extremely pass-heavy.

You put a pro-style QB up against Bo Pelini and he is going to get his ass raped. That is a statistical fact. Dual threat QB's and run-heavy teams are Bo's kryptonite.

Starting to wonder if Bo actually knows how to stop the run.

Amen this is why DT don't want to come to us and top high schools defenders also know their not gonna start as a freshman bc of how complicated our defense system is.unless you have a line filled with Dorsey n suh 2 gap is pointless.

As for next year defense. It's all on the DL. Lb have talent and speed but if he can't patch together good dline rotation were screwed. Doesn't matter if you have lockdown corners or good backers if the dline is weak teams will run us to death.

This staff is gambling really hard no recruiting enough and hoping everyone will buy into their system or step up each year. Some kids peak in high school some late college. My fear next year is the DLine backers will be ok their fast n hungry secondary will be ok alot of SR and 2-3 year player there but dline is the big key.

My last 2 cents I think they should let the DL attack n junk the 2gAp or make try alittle 3-4 if VV get in shape.

It would be pretty easy for a competing elite program to convince a recruit why Nebraska isn't in his best interest. IMO

Fortunately, the defense doesn't have to be that great next season. They merely need to show up and stop a drive or two while the offense runs wild over everyone. Who cares if your defense gives up 30 points per game if your offense scores 31?

I'm really hoping Bo is swallowing his pride and quietly junking the 2 gap.

He doesn't need to announce it.

Doesn't Matter if he announces it or does it quietly opponent aren't scared of it. They know how complicated it is for husker player to learn it. If you run the ball patiently and mix up the pass with misdirection + dual or fast qb were In trouble. I mean wisky ran a high school level offense of sweeps/misdirection/ end arounds. Do you think Saban or any other top or smart defense would have been fooled like that on a consistent basis... Nope.

Didnt think next year would a be a crucial year but it might be bc we don't have an big name opponent that can blow us out. So stupid blowout would not be taken lightly like last year. Time to let the defense loose and let them attack and wreck havoc.
