Interesting...he's doing okay, but gotta find the root to this, or it becomes a major issue.

That's scary shit. One time my wife had one and dumb ass me always heard that people can swallow their tongue so not thinking I stuck my fingers in her mouth and she bit down big time ! I'm sorry to say I didn't know what to do so I slapped her across the face and she released. I felt like shit because I think that any man that hit's a woman is a slime ball but I panicked and just reacted. Now I know better but she never had one again.

Use a comb or anything but an extremity that you do not want to lose !

You're actually not supposed to do that any more. They could bite off whatever it is and choke. Just have to let it take it's course. They suck. All you can do is call an ambulance, and move stuff out of the way so they don't hurt themselves while flailing.

Supposedly Stoll had a seizure a few years back too, so at least it might not be related to the Torres-delivered hit/concussion (but maybe concussions in general? not sure of his history but I think it wasn't his first).

Reasons to put something in seizure victim's mouth:

None. (You can't swallow your own tongue unless you have a VERY unusual tongue. You could BITE it off, but see below)

Reasons not to do that:

Germs
They could bite it off and choke on it.
They could bite whatever you put in there and BREAK THEIR FUCKING JAW.

What to do in the event of a seizure:

Get the person horizontal on the floor as gently as you can if possible.
Try and turn them on their side so they don't choke on their own vomit. Left side is better, but not imperative.
Check breathing.
Get shit out of their way (chairs, table legs, bags, etc), and if possible get something between their head and the floor.
Check for any medical ID they may have.
Stay with them until they are conscious or medical personnel arrive to take over; if the seizure has lasted for more than 3 minutes, you need to dial 911 IMMEDIATELY.

Pretty much. Never try to stop them from seizing, don't hold someone down. This is a good list, step by step. You get an A! :)

It's a old wives tale that needs to die. There's a lot of those in the medical world.

I have for some reason personally witnessed a number of seizures from random strangers. A few at college, a few when I worked at a fast food joint. It's not a fun time, but it's a hell of a lot better than personally witnessing something like a mugging, I'd imagine.

Only two for me...and one wasn't real seizure. Well, it was seizing, but not neurological...that was the athlete we lost. Rough, but in that situation we could at least try to help. Seizures suck because you just feel helpless. At least when it's done you can start performing general emergency care like monitoring vitals, etc.

The worst is when it never finishes.

My greyhound had seizures; once every few days. Had to get him medication, and it took a long time to get the right dosage. Except it wasn't the right dosage, apparently, because months and months later, he had a seizure that wouldn't stop. We rushed him to the emergency pet clinic after about 4 minutes of waiting for him to come out of it. He was still convulsing when we had him put down.

The dangerous thing about seizures that last for too long in greyhounds (and perhaps people too, but I am no doctor) is that something about it, maybe their immune system, overheats them. Dogs don't sweat, and they can't exactly pant while seizing, so their body temperature shoots up until it reaches dangerously high levels, and if it lasts for too long, it's lethal. I imagine the same is true for people.

The longer it lasts, regardless of the species, the more damage is done. I can imagine that was horrifying to watch. :( A TRUE seizure is a brain issue, sort of like a harddrive malfunction and your body needs to reset. Sometimes seizures aren't neurological in nature, and the issue is you can't tell which it is without being attached to a EEG during the seizure.
