Overall I am quite happy he's gone. Harden was a straight-up cancer and I was worried this would drag on until the trade deadline.

Some of the players they got in return are old and washed but maybe they can give us some backup minutes. And the picks hopefully will help either get an impact player this season or help us down the line.
Yeah... I don't love saying it, but the '6ers did pretty good on this one... especially given the fact that Harden had to go if there was any hope of moving forward this year.

My initial thought on the return :

major-league-cross-him-off.gif
They’re going to find a role for at least one of Morris, Batum, RoCo. It’s about the next deal whatever that is.

WTF are the Clippers doing? That team is fucked, with Westbrook and Harden.

I feel bad for Paul George.

Yeah, it remains to be seen what the short term gain is going to be.
But, they do maintain their cap flexibility for next year.

The Sixers have had a tougher time landing free agents compared to hot spots like Miami and LA.
Which is weird, because the Eagles, Phillies, and Flyers have not had problems attracting top tier talent.

If the plan is to keep Embiid happy, maybe they take a shot at Siakam? Maybe Anunoby too?
I'm thinking they try to create a sort of Foreign Legion team going after international players.

I was all about the “hold the line” path and then I saw the first 3 games and the how the ball moved and I was immediately off that plan. I didn’t want to see this team stagnate with Harden iso ball. Dribble dribble dribble dribble fat fat fat dribble dribble dribble step back 3.

There is a good article from KOC at The Ringer on this.

They have gone from being top of the league in PnRs to top of the league in DHOs.
The Maxey/Embiid dribble hand offs have been exceptional so far.
Like when they had Reddick, except Maxey just needs a sliver of space to get to the rim, which then opens up all kinds of possibilities that Reddick could never provide.

N I w to unload Tobias Harris and that crazy contract next.
Harris is an expiring. Why would they want to dump it? He's a good player who was overpaid. Moving him now creates a hole in the roster

We would have to get back an intriguing expiring contract or a young player worth keeping. Lavine?
I think I saw that they'll have $102M to spend next season (with a bunch going to Maxey).

I don't know. At this point, I would rather keep Tobias and see how it goes.

That being said, I'm not trading his .796 TS% right now.....

Yeah. Unless we can package him to get a top flight player, there is no reason to trade him.

This will be Harden's fourth team in four seasons.

For someone at that level of talent, to change teams that many times in that short of a period, this is what young people call a red flag.

Next year he will be demanding a trade to the Riyadh Runners.

His 39 million is the salary you need to fit a star into the salary cap. That piece could be a player like Pascal Siakam or Zack Lavine.

Yeah. If we can flip him for Siakam then do that. Otherwise, I would rather get a season of play from him and have his cap hold.

I don't know that Lavine is a better fit than Harris. I think Harris does more things to help the team and is better in that 3rd man role. The volume that Lavine will require may not be a great fit. He's a little younger, sure.

Then again, I haven't been a fan of Lavine, so I'm not impartial. Flash over substance too often IMO.
