Tomlin did it before Blunt and D'Angelo sat when bell was back..
Bell was still the franchise back at that point. Now Conner is, and Bell is on short-time.

Tomlin would need private security if he cut down on Conner's playtime for Bell. Especially if Bell underachieved.

Only two reasons not to:

Conner is injured and misses significant time / postseason, and they think he might come in to try and be a savior and bump his own value for next year.

The possibility of tag and trade in offseason.
Otherwise, it would be a no-brainer.
I could see the Ravens making a play for him.

You just know he's going to come back the week he has to in order to collect the rest of his tag. Like a gigantic flaming bag of douche... He will
And I hope the Steelers screw him with a 2 week roster exemption AND don't pay the prick a penny for those 2 weeks

Again this is Tomlin we are talking about.

The logical option is not the Tomlin option.

Well I think if he reports week 10 or whenever the last week he can to collect, the Steelers have to pay him the remainder of the tag regardless. Even if he was a roster exemption. In that case Bell would get exactly what he wants. Money without risking injury.

Honestly, I'd be concerned about his fitness level. He might flame out hard if he tries to play this season.

Doughboy screwed himself.

Yea I don't think he'll be ready anytime soon. It'll take at least a month of part time work before he's ready for a full 25-30 touches.

Don't quote me on it, but I'm pretty sure the remainder of the tag becomes fully guaranteed the moment he shows up.

If he shows up, they should let him sign, then walk him right out of the building.

Tell the fucker go back home, we don't want or need your cancer in the locker room.

Pretty sure the Steelers hold zero cards if he shows up. Sucks. Ideally they just revoke his tag. But that would mean putting him on the open market without return compensation. If they keep him then they will at the very least get his comp value in a future draft.

In took him at least 4 games last season to get up to par, he hasn't played a down or worked out with the team for about 10 months now...He's not the sharpest quill on the porcupine either;how long will it take him to learn the playbook after he gets one?

I think if he goes on exemption they don't have to pay him the full amount.

They have to pay him, but not at the going rate.

True. And honestly I don't think he'll be nearly as good running behind another O-line that doesn't understand how to block for his style. That sort of chemistry takes time.

I'd be curious to see how that plays out. Whatever way the Steelers can save money they should do it.

No, I wouldn't. I would hope Colbert and Rooney would step in.

Team leaders, too.

most o lines open a hole and shed their blocks , with Bell they need to learn to hold them longer while he dances in the backfield, the team he goes to needs a great O line.
