This seems crazy low.

Remember Sam Bradford's 50 million guaranteed rookie contract? Maybe the NFL is learning.

Their rookie contracts are lower now after the new CBA agreement. I think Bradford was the last guy to get a huge rookie contract.

Yep, Bradford got the last Mega #1 contract.

Good that is how it should be. No 21 year old kid straight out of college needs a 75 million dollar contract. You have to prove yourself before making that kind of money. This is how it should be for all rookies in all sports. I wouldn't mind them getting paid even less until they prove themselves.

It is not so much about learning as they signed a contract stating that this would be the type of salary that a rookie would make. The last CBA changed how contracts for rookies are done. No more of the ridiculous contracts that set franchises back years because of a top-10 pick busting. No more of the ridiculous hold outs that would have top picks waiting clear into training camp to sometimes get signed. This really simplified the whole process and has been a huge relief for both teams and players in my opinion. The Veterans loved this happening as it meant they got a bigger part of the Cap Pot every single year.

that was in past history, before the current CBA.

Last number 1 pick to get the 'big' money was Sam Bradford: Think he got something like 70 million, or in that area code...

Since when were signing bonuses so huge? I mean $16 million right off the bat to a guy who has barely set foot in your building?

Quite the opposite: you should actually ask "since when were signing bonuses so small?" since they were much bigger until the new CBA.

much of it changed after the 2011 lockout: Before 2011, owners huge amounts of money to top draft picks-players who had not earned anything or played a down yet- under the new CBA, that figure was cut in half, thus now top draft picks dont get those huge sums of money just for being drafted high.

But players got a number of concessions, like becoming free agents after four years, etc.

The sad thing is most of the players even forget about getting that bonus money when they start complaining about how little money they make compared to other quarterbacks. Anyway, they plan to build around the guy, so its best to eat this salary this year so there is room to get players around him over the next two or three seasons.

I just dont know why people are making a big deal out of him signing early, its a rookie scale in the first round, nobody is gonna not sign and wait to be drafted again.
