Yeah, if the amount is under $3 million, I don't think there is anything terrible about this scenario for the Pens. Given his recent NHL/KHL numbers, I'd figure Jagr is good for 18-25 goals and 25-35 assists. Good luck finding that for under $3 million.

Be honest wouldn't you rather have Simon Depres in the lineup than Niskanen?

Sure, if he's ready, but there's no guarantee that's the case. I'd also rather have Niskanen than Lovejoy or Engelland. Those two are good in stretches, but neither is particularly consistent. Niskanen never sets the world on fire, but you know what you're going to get from him.

I watched Depres during the Memorial Cup. He's ready.

That's exactly what I'm thinking. Even the low end of that, 18 goals and 43 points, is very solid production for a $2 million contract, which is what they apparently offered him. 25 goals and 60 points? That's great on a $4 million deal!

Some guy I work with is a huge Pens fan, and he said he just heard it on the radio.

What station he was listening to, idk.

I don't buy into radio reports very often. I want to see it in print. However, your friend made me cautiously optimistic right now.

Are you doing Flyers' fan shtick?

Tribune published an article an hour ago that said no deal was made and it's unknown where Jagr is. Link.

The kid was playing 30 minutes per night. What do you expect from him?

He's proven stamina, but he's yet to prove the split-second decision making ability demanded at the NHL level. We won't know whether or not he's ready until the preseason. I like having Nisky on the roster as a security blanket in case the kid is still a little overwhelmed.

Somebody get that man a cell phone. How can no one know where he is?

Well, his agent is saying he doesn't know. He may actually not, or he may know and just not be telling.

Funny zing at #jagrwatch:
"Maybe Jagr got off of the plane, saw the #Pirates were above .500 and thought he had traveled back in time. #Jagrwatch"

He must have gotten into a hot tub when he landed...
