Patriots sign Gaffney. Thank God.

I think we can all agree that New England is a well ran organization, so if they sign Gaffney that must mean he is a talented player, right? So why wouldn't his signing have been a good thing for the Bengals?

Patriots also traded for Ochocinco and signed Haynesworth. Great moves by them there too right?

To be fair, the Pats gave up 5th rounders for two all-pro players. When it turned out they couldn't play, they simply kept them on the bench (Ocho) or got rid of them all together. Hard to argue with those deals even though they didn't work out.

The Patriots have been to 5 (XXXVI, XXXVIII, XXXIX, XLII, XLVI) of the last 11 Super Bowls winning 3 (XXXVI, XXXVIII, XXXIX) of them. Yeah, they don't have a clue how to run an organization.

Never said that for I? They run a great organization, however every move they make isn't golden. They to get players they think will be good that just aren't. You have no idea if Gafney will be a good signing for them or not was my point.

The kicker here is the Pats weren't even in a dire need for a receiver yet still went after him. The Bengals probably didn't even inquire.

As has been mentioned, he's had over 60 receptions and averaged over 900 yards over the last 2 seasons with Grossman/Beck and Orton as his QB's. We absolutely could do a lot worse than Gaffney.

He's been on 6 teams in 6 years. He must be great to be so wanted.

Wait a minute, I thought you said I was the one following you? Yet, you're the one always reply to my posts. Hmmm, that can't be right.

Jones and Sanu are rookies. Whalen was a 7th rounder. Binns wasn't wanted by anyone. Shipley is an injured slot man. Baby Hawk was an undrafted longshot. It's not like the team is littered with players with a high pedigree. It's hard to understand why you wouldn't be in favor of more competition at the position.

Because I know what will happen. Once he's on the team, he'll stay on the team and they'll do something stupid, like try and put Sanu or Jones on the practice squad or cut a young promising player. Let the youth movement grow. In case you haven't noticed, we're not exactly adept at picking free agent WRs.

Do you realize with the exception of New England, when he was stuck behind Randy Moss, that he's averaged 54 receptions (Houston 2002- 41 rec, Denver 2009- 54 rec, Washington 2011- 68 rec) in the 1st season on his new team. What does that mean? That means that he was able to come into to a new system and contribute immediately. Do you honestly believe any of the receivers vying for the #2 wr position opposite A.J. Green will catch 54 passes this season? To be honest I don't. And actually its only 3 teams in 6 yrs. I'm just sayin'

It doesn't matter. This team is going to run the ball like crazy anyway. I'd rather throw the kids out there and let them learn in real time. Then they'll be be better off in year 2. You take time away from them and they're not ready next year either.

we're going to run the ball like crazy with BJGE and B.Scott, and play B.Leanord on 3rd down.

must be getting late.

we're going to punt the ball like crazy, that's what were going to do.

No better way to open up the running attack than have a legitimate threat at the #2 spot opposite Green.

The majority of the learning curve from the first year to the next for a WR is mental. Learning the system, route trees, etc. That's not to say being on the field doesn't help, but it wouldn't be that big of a setback. Especially if we were to sign any vet #2 for 2 years. They could learn behind a vet and slowly take over the position over the course of 2 years instead of throwing them to the wolves right off the bat.
