Actually I hope they bring him in as he had close to a 1000 yds last year with Rex Grossman and John Beck throwing to him. That is a major accomplishment with those bums throwing to him.

I wouldn't mind the WR core looking like this:

Green
Sanu
Jones
Shipley
Hawkins
Binns
Gaffney (1 year deal only at about 3 million)

Cut ties with Whalen, Tate.

I could live with that. Though in that scenario Binns is most likely gone too.

Not really, because I think we need to hold on to 7, because they are already talking about maybe PUP'ing Shipley and Hall, and going from there.

So if they do that, Shipley is basically not even taking up a roster spot for 6 weeks.

Besides, I think they need to go heavy on WR this year, and a bit lighter at RB.

Last year, we were carrying 4 HB - 1 FB, this year I think we need to go 3-1, with the 3 being BJGE, Scott and Leonard, Herron to the practice squad.

I think he can be hid there, and I just don't think they would be used for anythign more than ST anyways.

I say, try to go heavy WR, play all these young guys at some point during the season, see what you have so you can really evaluate before next year. In the meantime, you have a decent veteran WR to help assist that group, since the core looks like this:

Green (2nd year)
Sanu (Rookie)
Jones (Rookie)
Shipley (3rd year but never played 2nd year)
Hawkins (2nd year)
Whalen (2nd year)
Binns (2nd year but never played so rookie status)
Tate (4th year but basically just a special teams player)
Vidal Hazelton (Rookie - college free agent)
Kashif Moore (Rookie - college free agent)

Our oldest tenured WR is 4 years in the league and he is just a special teamer, after that it is Shipley starting year 3, but only one season of playing due to injury last year.

I think we can't afford not to add a little depth their with a veteran like Gaffney, and go a little light somewhere else like RB.

If we ship Baby Hawk to Pittsburgh, Baltimore, or Cleveland ... I'm going to throw up.

I wouldn't figure Shipley for PUP. He tore his knee up in September - Unless there were complications, he should easily be ready for the season. Leon Hall is definitely a candidate for PUP.

As for going heavy on receivers/light on running backs..... One thing that always disturbs me when fans create rosters is that they totally neglect special teams. A guy like Cedric Peerman may not have had the carries that made you want to keep him, but he was a major cog in one of the best coverage teams in the NFL. Whether it be an extra linebacker or an extra running back, at least one and maybe two positions need to be taken by guys that are key special teams players. Otherwise, we can expect to lose at least one game due to bullshit.

When have you heard about Shipley to PUP?

It was nothing legit as it is just Hobspin thinking out loud talk...but I guess it could carry merit or at least a possibility trying not to rush Hall and Shipley back and making sure they are 100% before they play.

Read 1:28 mark...like I said, it is just Hobspin propoganda, but I see it as a possibility..and even if it doesn't happen, we need to carry 7 WR's this year in my opinion and one of those should be a veteran with a decent track record for no more than a year.

Two-minute drill

I understand completely where you are coming from which is why my roster would shake out a little different in other positions....but Brian Leonard would be a good special teams player, Taylor Mays, Vincent Rey, Moch, etc.

I just do not think Peerman, over the guys we have would be that much of an upgrade at special teams we have to go 4 deep at RB, and get a special teams guy, where as we can go 7 deep at WR, get a little veteran presence, while I think the size and speed of Binns, Jones would make great additions to special teams, and even Hawkins for that part how versatile and fiesty he is..i would imagine he is a good candidate also.

I just do not think Peerman is enough of an upgrade to sit here and say..lets go 4 deep at RB instead of 7 deep a WR when we have zero veteran presence in our WR core and no one that has done it well on a year to year basis to put that faith into them.

But I agree, special teams are important.

I don't think they will cary 7 WR's, but bringing a guy in for TC and to help the younger WR's wouldn't be a bad option.

I'm ok with it either way it goes down.

We should have a GM. We should have a practice bubble. Should doesn't mean anything.

When Hobbs starts throwing out the "just thinking out loud, but this guy might be hurt" propaganda, I start getting scared..... This is just his way of softening the blow. With our training staff, it's probably a 50% shot that either Shipley or Hall will be retired within the next 3 years.

I am sorry...I didn't realize this message board lived in the now and reality and was not based off our opinion and desire for this team. I mean, I saw all these mock drafts on here, but I guess that was based off reality of what is going to happen, because what our "opinion" on what the front office doesn't hold merit on a message board.

I was providing my case to other posters why I THINK we SHOULD carry 7 WR versus 4 RB, trying to convince the people on here. I was not making my case to the Bengals front office trying to convince them.

Receiver is a major question mark....

Shipley is coming off injury, Sanu and Jones are rookies, Binns is an undrafted free agent on his second team, baby hawk is more of a luxury item, Tate is a kick returner and Whalen looks like a very average player. I think you bring in as much talent as possible to compete for the top 5 or 6 jobs.

If for nothing else, at least this for Gods sake. I like our young WR's, but I am not saying I like them so much that I think they should be awarded roster spots automatically just because I like their potential. Bring in the competition, make them earn that f'n spot and then at least we can sit here and say..the guy won the roster spot, I have no bones about it now.

T.O. is looking for a job. He'd be a good mentor too.
