Galvis is like that mets shortstop from the early 2000s. Ray Ordonez.... they're great defensively, but can't hit for shit.

I don't know if he needs to go but Sandberg needs to stop fucking starting him at third base.

He's obviously better than a .030 hitter, or whatever he's hitting. If Hernandez can become competent at short and third in the minors, and either Asche, Rollins, or Utley goes on the DL, I would want Cesar starting and Nix DFA'd instead of Galvis. Galvis is a .650 OPS bench player who can play a lot of positions and play them well. He can be an asset on a team. Just obviously not when he's starting regularly.

i like galvis, but yeah.. he really isn't needed. there's asche, franco and hernandez. even though crawford is several years away, he looks very promising. for his career (273 AB) he's batting .300, .397 obp, .786 ops. 43 walks compared to 49 strikeouts. also 20 steals. he doesn't turn 20 until january.

at the very least, asche needs to play. that's bullshit he's been partially benched after a few weeks. his numbers aren't THAT horrible. he's had limited pro ball experience and is going to struggle at times. fucking galvis is 1-30 with a single. so how the fuck are you going to play him instead? because his defense has been slightly better? yeah, ok.

also forgot to add that asche has done very well with runners in scoring position, especially with 2 outs. if you moved the guy up in the order like i mentioned in a different thread, maybe he'd catch fire a bit.

The Phillies are doing their best to jerk Asche around so they can do their favs move and send him down and then look for an aging vet somewhere and throw a boatload of cash at him or her.

If it's a her, I don't want to see her picture.

Asche should be playing everyday. waiting for godot to hit is a drag. The booth suggested he might go down as early as Monday. Maybe Caesar would come up. Hail Caesar!

F Gal made a tremendous play at third base in the ninth inning today. I agree Asche should start, but I like the idea of Galvis as a late inning defensive replacement. It might hurt Asche's demeanor a little but so what- don't get the golden sombrero and maybe your manager thinks twice abut taking your bat out of the lineup if the games goes into extras.

When did they say this? I must have missed it.

Yeah, Galvis still can't hit but he is a pretty talented defender. It seems like the Phillies are always taking several years to develop infielders but Galvis is like 24 and he switches between 2nd, ss, 3rd and he is good at all of them. If Hernandez could at least be good enough to play ss or 3rd in an emergency I'd rather see him come up and get rid of Nix. I think he at least has potential to be a decent hitter for an infielder.

Galvis made a critical stop on a hard grounder in the 9th yesterday so maybe he should stick around a little longer for these situations but Asche must play more so he can improve his hitting and fielding. Ryno seems to know what he's doing.

Yeah, for all we know Asche could have been playing less because of a nagging injury that he had a couple weeks ago. The main thing is that he gets his chance to play as much as possible this year. Even if Franco catches fire in AAA it seems like he is more like a 3B/1B/OF type according to what I hear.(which is fine, if he can hit they can phase him in over the next couple years) Asche seems like he has the best chance to be an every day 3B.

Also, check out Mike Olt, the guy everyone wanted to trade Cliff Lee for a couple years ago when he was a prospect with Texas. He's about the same age as Asche, with about the same stats. Sometimes it takes a while to adjust to the majors.

Along with designated hitter, baseball needs a designated fielder. You don't hit at all. You just do what you do best.
