I havent heard any details regarding rule changes or stuff to improve the game ... Anything???

Or will the philosophy of "game management" continue to be in effect so as to manufacture parity?

fuck this sucks. its a money grab noone had any care about the game they just wanted to get it done to get some billions. they make me sick. canucks fans are going to wish it was a full season lockout.

on that note this CBA better be fucking air tight and fair to both sides if not then the whole fucking thing was wasted time which I believe it was anyway. fuck them

So does edmonton come flying out the gates since their kids have been tearing up the a

(and also with the knowledge they dont have a guaranteed first overall draft pick if they finish last)

I bet they look good out of the gate. In fact, I think any team that has players already up to speed in other leagues will benefit.

For Pittsburgh... Vokoun and Malkin will be coming in primed and ready.

what does this mean?

- The salary variance on contracts from year to year cannot vary more than 35 per cent and the final year cannot vary more than 50 per cent of the highest year.

Yeah, it doesn't make much sense. The important number is the $64,300,000 for next season.

I think once they get this thing down on paper and ratified, the trades will begin in earnest.

If someone signs a max deal with first year paying 10 shmill the final year cant pay less than 5 shmill

This contract is good:
10m, 10m, 6.5m, 5m

These two aren't:
10m, 5m, 5m (breaks the 35% year to year rule)
10m, 6.5m, 4.5m (breaks the 50% from highest year rule)

The biggest thing here is at least 8 years of labour peace. Does anybody know, can either side opt out after 8 years? Or does it have to be both sides mutually opting out. Looking at the rest of what's being reported, I have to think the NHL gave up a lot for this concession. Does Bettman think it will be his legacy?

The players, with Fehr and the way they stood behind him during this round of negotations, have shown they won't be pushed around anymore. I'm glad we have a long CBA, but still worried about the next one. Hopefully, both Bettman and Fehr are gone by then, and there's some sort of trust / goodwill between the new parties. That's the only way I see them bargaining early and avoiding the game of chicken we saw this time around.
