best "We're sorry" that I have seen from a team so far

Jim Lites says Stars will have free tickets for kids under 12 for all Jan. and Feb. games.

/FUCK DALLAS

yep that is how its done. and easy to do when the building is half full each night anyway so at least they will get popcorn/pop concessions out of it

Pens to offer perks:

The Pittsburgh Penguins will offer FREE selected concession items and “half off” all merchandise at the team’s first four games at CONSOL Energy Center.

Every fan attending each of those games will receive a voucher for three free concession items. Fans may choose from among hamburgers, hot dogs, chicken sandwiches, nachos, popcorn, pretzels, salads and fountain drinks.

All merchandise at “PensGear” stores will be half off for the first four games. The PensGear store in the main lobby of CONSOL Energy Center and PensGear at SouthSide Works will offer the half-off discount throughout the day on the first four home dates.

In addition, the Penguins will hold a week-long program of contests for fans to win exciting prizes leading up to the home opener. The contests will be held via social media and the team’s website. Prizes include:

A pair of tickets to every home game during the 2013 regular season
A road trip for two to see the Penguins play the Rangers in New York City (airfare, accommodations, tickets)
Three autographed jerseys – one each from Sidney Crosby, Evgeni Malkin and Marc-Andre Fleury
Four seats in the first row at the home opener, including dinner in the Lexus Club and limo service to and from the game
Two five-game mini-plans
Six lower bowl tickets to any regular season game
$700 of merchandise at PensGear
Training camp sessions at CONSOL Energy Center will be open to the public (free admission).
Penguins to offer perks to the fans:

The Penguins will distribute promotional items at each of the first 15 home games. All fans attending the home opener will receive a gold “Great Day For Hockey” t-shirt.

The team will provide single-game ticket information as soon as the NHL schedule is released. Updates about fan initiatives will be announced in the coming days.

This is all we got.

"We are all very excited that the NHL and the NHLPA have reached a tentative agreement, and we look forward to dropping the puck and playing Bruins Hockey in front of our fans at the TD Garden soon." - Cam Neely, Bruins President

The BlueJackets have posted a picture of the team saluting the crowd at center ice, with the words "Thank You Fans!" on it on their official page.

At least they photoshopped Nash out of it.

Nice work by Dallas, LA, and Pittsburgh, there.

in Order

Kings - the $1m back to the city is amazing
Dallas - while its great that they are giving away free tickets to kids its easy to do when your building is going to be half empty anyway but good on them
Pittsburgh - this seems like something they could do in a REGULAR full season for the amount of money that they make its generous but doesnt come close to what the Kings are doing

Really hope the canucks do something similar to the kings

Does the 50/50 all go to canuck place or is it split between charities?

Its close to 750k that charity has lost thanks to no 50/50 draws this year

I agree. Free tickets to the kids is not only a good way to fill the seats and increase concession sales but also possibly build life-long fans for the future.

The giveaways and contests (for the first 4 games only) by the Pens is obviously a ploy to make sure people show up initially. Meh. It'll be interesting to see what kind of attendance numbers there are after those first 4 games.

All youth hockey players get in free to OSU games, it's always been that way. Since we've gone to so many my son is ALL ABOUT buckeye hockey.

He knows the names of more Buckeye players than Jackets players. He's up to three OSU Jerseys. One BlueJackets one.

The youth is what it's all about. That's the reason for expansion, to build the game from within. The league is the top level, but at the end of the day the NHL is just another hockey league. Everything done should be about the health of the game now and in the future. The owners don't get that. They only care about their investment now.

And expansion works. Look at the makeup of the US WJHC team. Ohio, Texas, Cali, Florida... Youth hockey programs in Carolina and Colorado are HUGE. That's how you judge the failure in Phoenix. Not by gate receipts, but by the fact that no one there plays. Their youth hockey is pitiful.

I hope they eventually see the game will survive without them. If the league dissolved tomorrow and a new one started with all new owners, it would not make one bit of difference to me. I would still watch. I watch the game. And when we come back we won't be coming back for them.

We come back because nothing gets you standing up like a well executed 2 on 1.

And fans are worried that these banners will half covered in the golden arches
