Patriots Gronkowski Opens Up In New Book ‘It’s Good To Be Gronk’

BOSTON (CBS) — We already had a pretty good idea that Rob Gronkowski has a good life, but he’s opening up a bit in a new book.

The Patriots tight end has penned a new memoir with agent Jason Rosenhaus, fittingly titled It’s Good To Be Gronk (not to be confused with A Gronking To Remember). In the new book, Gronkowski shares some stories from his college days at Arizona, a few of his exchanges with Bill Belichick, and an interesting tidbit about his finances.

The MMQB posted a few excerpts from the book on Monday, with one revealing that Gronkowski hasn’t yet touched any of the cash he’s earned in his five seasons with the Patriots. That sweet party bus and all of his other cool toys have been paid for with the money he’s earned from his numerous sponsorships, leaving plenty in Gronk’s piggy bank for the future.

“To this day, I still haven’t touched one dime of my signing bonus or NFL contract money. I live off my marketing money and haven’t blown it on any big-money expensive cars, expensive jewelry or tattoos and still wear my favorite pair of jeans from high school… I don’t hurt anyone (except Gord with the occasional kick to the groin), I don’t do drugs, I don’t drive drunk, I don’t break the law… I’m a 23-year-old guy just looking to have a fun time.”

As for resident curmudgeon Bill Belichick and his thoughts on Gronk, the Patriots head coach applauds his tight end’s work ethic, he’s just not so sure of his off-field activities. But if No. 87 keeps hauling in touchdowns at the rate he has been to start his career, even Belichick can learn to live with all his off-field antics.

“While I was watching a training camp practice in between my own exercises, Coach Belichick was standing right next to me and said, ‘Rob, you are one of the hardest workers I’ve seen, and you’re always working hard when you’re here, but when you’re not here… I don’t know about your craziness off the field, the messing.’ I started laughing and told him, ‘The fun stuff makes me grind harder, coach.’ He shook his head as he walked off and said, ‘Whatever works for you.'”

It’s Good To Be Gronk goes on sale July 14.

Said Gronk about Sergio Brown -
"He was just yappin' at me the whole time," Gronkowski said of the play, "So I took him and threw him out of the club."

Glad that he is actually being smart with his money. I hate to hear of these athletes that are broke within 10 years of retiring after making millions. The NFL like other professional sports try to help these guys out as much as possible of how best to use your money but like many 21-25 year olds they have no clue how to use money.

Good for him. More of these guys should be like that. Gronk also strikes me as a guy who doesn't give a shit about what others say. I read an article a while back about broke athlete's and a lot of them bowed to peer pressure. One quote I remember, "You can't just show up at practice in a Maxima, people will make fun of you". There were similar quotes about expensive clothes etc. Can't see Gronk giving a shit about someone not liking his clothes or car
The guy from K.C. that killed himself and his kids mother a few years back had money issues, but he had a $250,000 car. These guys think the money will never end and when reality hits them in the face bad shit happens.

Having 6 kids littering the landscape in 5 states and entourages also doesn't help. Another couple of things Gronk doesn't seem to need. He just creates a posse when he gets to the party.

He chums with 2 guys I know and honestly I wouldnt hang with them. One used to be a service manager for me at the dealership ( Dana P ) and the other one is his cuz Robbie Goon. Dana let a couple rookies board with him, Gronk being one and loves hanging with these guys
