I don't think it makes any sense bc the Lakers do not have young assets and don't seem to be willing to give up future picks. They can unload him this year easily for expiring contracts, it's just about who wants to pay him that money long-term. The main point would be getting something for him that is half way decent. I'm not sure why they would just dump him rather than keeping him or possibly wait till next offseason, which seems more likely. From the handful of teams that have projected cap space next season, the Lakers don't make sense. (LAL, OKC, CHA, DET, ORL, IND, HOU, SAS)The Lakers don't make sense from a Warriors perspective unless they're looking to shed salary and want expiring deals.
But even then, they could likely get better players on expiring deals than the Lakers could offer.
From the Lakers perspective it makes some sense though.
They could also just wait till his new contract kicks in and then trade him including young players and picks for a big salary. It seems they don't care about paying tax at this point so it would be improving their roster as much as they could going forward imo. Only reason I mentioned PG, not that it makes sense, just an example.
