Derp... the Same way anyother activity draws casual fans, the Desire To be included or Involved with "everyone" else.

Keep trying....a large amount of those into e-sports aren't the popular type, hence aren't going to have oodles of non-gaming friends to bring for social events.

Maybe in your fantasy world, the popular kids/adults or large social groups are into e-sports. In the real world, that's not the case. You're not going to get a sorority reunion or a bowling league night out or a college org or a chamber of commerce group going to e-sporting events like they would go to a ballgame, correct?

Some reality...
91% of Kids participating in video gaming... 49% of adults play... for adults, what role does availability of gaming as a kid, play?
55% of kids participating in physical sports... down from 73% of adults who claim they played physical sports as a youth.

I doubt you see any sort of trend...

headline from Canada...
Video games replace sports for boys
With sports participation rates dropping, modern boyhood can mean more video games and less hockey.

Again, playing video games and watching e-sports are two different things.

The problem is you're not differentiating....that would be like saying most people who cook watch the Food Network, but that's not the case, just as most people who game don't give a shit about e-sports.

You're still not answering the question.... How is e-sports going to attract the casual and non-fan?

Not to mention, older people aren't likely to play nor have an interest video games, so why would they watch a Counterstrike tournament for example? Is your average 50+ year old going to watch e-sports like they do football or baseball or soccer?

If you can't answer those two questions, then you'd know why you're wrong...

And not a large % of people playing video games are watching e-sports, so you can't use video games stats to compare to physical sports (poor logic on your end). E-sports is currently less than a billion dollar industry, whereas the NHL by comparison is a $4 billion business.

91% of kids are play and are obviously, fans of gaming... when you were a kid did you play and were fan of sports, or did you not play and became a fan as an adult? It is socially acceptable for Adults to game... over half of Adults now game... with big differences in the age groups... im alluding to older adults arent playing but still hold a large section of the adult demographic, whereas younger adults are. Most kids who play sports enjoy watching sports when they can no longer play. Kids who dont enjoy sports might be that casual & non-fan when they grow up, and only watch the Superbowl or world series etc, as a social experience, but they arent really fans, as the number of kids who dont play or enjoy sports grows, and its growing, while having something they do enjoy now available... esports... will grow. Socializing in-game also is growing. The need to travel to a friends house to play is gone with multiplayer.

You're still not answering the questions...

How is e-sports EVER going to capture the casual or non fan? There's not an unlimited supply of hardcore gamers out there, so at some point they'll need to capture the non hardcore fans to keep growing. Casual/non fans aren't going to go to video game tournaments as a social event or host clients there or buy merchandise cause it's their hometown e-sports team like they do for physical sports.

You're failing to see that obvious problem, and that's why they won't overtake physical sports.
Youre simply confusing right now with tomorrow... Gaming isnt going anywhere. Needing a hometown team is archaic & obsolete. Socializing online is also here to stay. Sports has survived and thrived in a world where there is no real competition to it... and to clear this up for you... the casual fans are the ones watching... guess what the hardcore gamer is doing? Participation trumps Watching. There will be a day when eSports tries to challenge a sporting event for eyeballs.

Amazon bought Twitch, Facebook has Facebook Live, and Google has Youtube Streaming... why? Twitch is only 7yrs old.

Is a 10 year old playing GTA by himself (and competing against no one) participating in e-sports?

Do you not know what a sport is?
Imbecile... watch that vr spectator mode... imagine watching a football game From that kind of technological position... its kinda crossing the line between playing And watching... without actually doing so.

Same reason many invest in things like crypto and every IPO (even shitty ones like Snap)...FOMO.

And in the first article I opened that you linked (one of the Bus Insider articles), they talk about how video gaming companies have not been able to transition user generations. That's a problem that I brought up as the typical 50+ year old (maybe even 40+) just isn't into video games as much when they start getting married with kids. Its great for a teen with much free time, but when that responsibility starts, there's less free time for stuff like this.

You're not answering the simple question. Is the kid playing video games by himself partaking in e-sports?

It's a simple Y/N question...you blabbering off technologies isn't answering the simple Q.

For now thats a bump in the road... that generation wasnt inundated with gaming like this one is.... sure games existed, but there wasnt a pro league to dream of Being in, there wasnt an avenue to make a living playing games. The 40-50+ yr olds are from a different time... a time thats dying. Even cable tv will suffer...

A bump in the road is not something that's been an issue for ~40 years...older people to a large extent weren't playing Super Mario, weren't playing Mortal Kombat, weren't playing Halo, weren't playing CoD, aren't playing Fortnite....

Sorry, but that's an absurd belief on your end that it's merely a bump in the road.

Is there proof that shows older people to any material extent will be into VR/AR?

Just listing the technology does nothing to help your argument, because there's no evidence that it will be well received by this group. Not to mention, when these people have less free time because of kids and careers, how does VR change that?

Like I said, a demographic issue is never merely a bump in the road...a bump in the road is a defective part that can be remedied with some R&D or something of that nature... This is much more than that.

Not to mention, there's growing sentiment that these new techs won't catch on or be worth it..

Game developers are losing interest in VR as it fails to catch on

Are the Virtual and Augmented Reality Markets Already Dying?

Im not a vr or Ar fan, and have been vocal Against it... and it is Dying... which i did wishfully predict. the the client version of the games For watching from inside the game is not going anywhere, and definitely Needs work to avoid the possibility of Players and viewers being able to collude, which could be solved With buffer expensive delays.

There are definitely some good uses for VR/AR, and I've seen it in the A&E/construction industry for example (we have a large architect client that's now using VR to design and present building layouts to clients. In a situation like that, it's very useful..

In the video gaming industry, the price point I think will always be high since there's a lot of customized software development involved per application/game/use that goes well beyond regular video game development (hard to scale/automate that and make it much cheaper to develop over time). Plus, consumer adoption rate often isn't high unless the current system/alternative sucks or has major flaws, and the current video game offerings don't have those issues (VR is an enhancement to an already good system/platform, so it may be considered more of a luxury than the norm).

I haven't got a dog in this fight, but we ran stories the past few weeks on VR being used as a tool with both seniors and with pain patients, so who knows how quickly that tech could get embraced by the old(er).

Same with 3d movies...

That doesn't really help your argument. 3D movies ain't going anywhere. They're even making an extra $2/head on tickets.
