You could argue that Koufax had as good of a 5 year run as any pitcher ever. I'll take Johnson, Gibson and Seaver though. Cy Young and Walter Johnson are obvious candidates as well, but that was a long, long time ago. Cy Young pitched his final game in 1911, and I believe started his career pitching underhand. It was a very different game.

Yeah, that was an accident. I originally was going to vote yes and then I did some research, and I think he falls just short. I changed my vote.

I'm not begging for shit. How about you respond to the post on my other thread?
Because you are a troll. You don't know a thing and all you can do is keep talking about how you tore up some ass after you say something like ''Jay Cutler is better than Tom Brady because of his FFIP''. I'm gonna leave you to it clueless

Why can't you just acknowledge you were wrong about something so simple; Koufax, in regards to PED's, something that has nothing to do with statistics?

I don't know what "FFIP" is, nor are we talking about football. You seem to be changing the subject a lot lately.

This is tough. Top 3 all-time? Honestly, this is something I have never thought about before. Top three best hitters, sure. For some reason, I have never thought about the 3 best pitchers.

I am partial to Cy Young, Walter Johnson and Christy Mathewson. I know all three of these guys pitched more or less pitched in the deadball era, but those are my three.

Koufax was pretty good (also before my time). I do wonder if someone could chime in who saw Koufax pitch. I would have to think, if I saw him pitch, it would affect my opinion. All of these guys I am basing it off stats, stories, myths and legends.

Why would this affect your opinion?

He had a great 5 year run, but no, he doesn't sniff my top 3.

My personal top 3 is:

Roger Clemens
Greg Maddux
Randy Johnson

Each of them had great peaks, and long careers, and they did it all in the most offense dominant era in baseball history.

Also, I sell low on deadball era pitchers.

I just meant the emotional aspect of actually seeing someone pitch, compare to just looking at their stats.
Yeah, I understood that. I just don't know how seeing someone pitch would make them any better or worse in your eyes.

For example, Ryan Howard is the main player that got me into baseball. I loved him. That doesn't mean I don't realize he's a one-trick pony that lost that one trick and then completely sucked.

True. This was a good question. This has me re-thinking some things.

That is an interesting. I guess I haven't thought about that either. The deck was stacked in the pitchers favor then.

I don't know, it's hard to say. It seems like it wasn't that uncommon for batters to hit .400 back then. It was a different game back then and hard to really quantify. You have guys like Walter Johnson and Pete Alexander that really dropped off after the 1920 season though.

I'm one of the younger posters here, and I tend to give the more modern players more of the benefit of the doubt than I do the pre integration players, especially those in the deadball era and those that played before the turn of the century.

He's gonna turn it around for the Braves in AAA and then return to his former glory for the stretch run this season.
