Monday Musings: Preseason shows Russell Wilson ready for higher level - CBSSports.com
Pete Prisco offers his best analysis since he's been in the business. He's just trying to make up for the negative D he gave the Hawks years ago for drafting Wilson.
Many Say Wilson is carried by his team and anyone could've led that team to the SB or Wilson would be non-existent in garbage teams like the Browns/Vikes.
I've been saying just the opposite. I've been stating since day one that was the best draft Seattle ever made and told all their fans he would win the starting Job and deserved it. NOT ONE AGREED. Wilson is in the top ten in nearly every efficiency category (which is what matters the most since he will not post the steller numbers since he doesn't get the opportunity to stat pad like many QB's). He's done this despite having the most inept (28th according to advanced statistics) passing O-lines in the game and a WR corps with only one solid #2 option and the rest were maybe decent #3-#4 options. The only thing that gave him a break was the run blocking is top 10 and Beast Mode is a top 10 RB still. But they play the conservative style and it's run run(if not effective) 3rd down Wilson has to bail them out every time. Also, him and Rodgers are tied for the least amount of time allowed by an O-line to throw a pass over the last 2 seasons.
Now with an improved pass blocking team some additions to the WR position and a healthy Harvin I feel they could incorporate a more balanced approach this season thus giving him the numbers to compete for an MVP award. He was 2nd or 3rd for the first half of the season in MVP voting on ESPN but the combination of O-line injuries and playing the best defenses in the NFL for 6 out of the 7 game in he second half it led to Wilson having an avg second half.
Right now I would say Wilson is easily a top 10 QB and would not take anyone over him for over the next decade. I believe in 5 years he will surpass Rodgers as the best QB in the NFL and this year he will solidify himself in the top 5 just behind Rodgers, Manning, Brees, and Brady. Stats and his leadership have proven this a valid prediction but I know many will not even consider him a top ten or even worse take a RGIII, Kaep, Luck, or even foles over him.
