Is Philip Rivers currently the best QB in the NFL?

Considering two years ago most people were wondering if he was even a starter in this league, he has been fantastic lately. But is he better than Rodgers, Manning, or Brees? No.

Its more of an NBA type thread.

Peyton is probably the best short range QB of all time doing what he is doing right now. But thats not going to beat Seattle and maybe a couple of other teams. Rodgers is great but Im not sure he is quite as good as he was 2-3 years ago. Brady has fallen off. Brees is only elite in domes. Cam, Wilson and Luck arent there yet.

Footballoutsiders had Rivers as the #2 QB last year behind Peyton. Obviously he wasn't good the year before but the Chargers were a total mess for awhile.

Its something to keep your eye on as the season goes along. NFL does stand for 'not for long'

As many have already said, I don't think he's the best QB in the NFL right now. But I do think that Rivers has been underrated most of his career. He has an awkward throwing motion but man can the guy thread the ball in some tight windows.

I don't follow him or hear about him much, and this ^^^ may be the reason. With guys like Manning, it seems EVERYONE knows what they are getting..... consistency may be the right word. Yeah, there will be great games and stinker games....but the overall picture year in and year out.... doesn't put Rivers in a great / best light.

I guess being only QB that has 3 5k seasons and setting the most games with a td record ( Brady 2nd) is pedestrian, I'll take it
