How is it possible that a team can go from almost winning 16 games during the regular season one year, to maybe going 0-16 the very next season?

I think its quite possible. You don't see many quarterbacks run the offense like he does at the line. Very high football IQ. Makes that team look a whole lot better no doubt.

Yes.

Peyton should be head coach and quarterback. Like the old baseball players used to do

Is it possible Manning can win MVP without playing a single snap?

I used to say that the Colts are a 4 or 5 win team without Manning, but I might have been giving Polian too much credit.

Nah, I don't think he's any more valuable than Steve Young was to the 49ers in the late 90s. They went from a 13 win team in 97, 12 win team in 98, to a team who only won 2 games out of 13 games after Young was injured in 1999.

I'll change my mind if they really do go 0-16 though.

The difference is the Niner had coaching... Caldwell is the token coach Manning runs the offense.

It didn't take Garcia very long to turn the 9ers around though. I think you have to say Manning. Aikman deserves a mention.

imo emmitt and the oline was dallas' most important parts. i think peyton and brees are head and shoulders above everyone right now. all time, i duno call me a homer but i'd take montana and young anyday over peyton.

I would too, but that wasn't my question.

I've always thought Peyton really has deserves MVP for quite a few years now based on the reasons you mentioned. If the Colts had a better back up QB, that may not be the case. Are the Packers a 4-5 win team with Painter starting for them? They have just as bad of a running game and their Defense has fallen off a bit this year. Still, i think Peyton is hands down the most valuable player to his team that we have ever seen.

Garcia turning the Niners around has nothing to do with how bad the team was without Young. Say the Colts win 3 games this year.... then next year we find out Manning can no longer play the game and they get Andrew luck and in his second year he wins 11 games. Does that take away how valuable Manning is to the team??

Clyde...I was saying the same thing to my friends yesterday.... Manning should get the MVP without playing a snap. I think he just might be the most valuable QB ever. But I also believe that the Colts organization has made him this way. They never seem to address the defense aside from the pass rush which is built upon Manning getting them the lead. He seems to call all the plays on offense at the line, and makes the coaches look better than they are.

I'm going to add this to the question. The Colts went from the (4th \ 4th) ranked offense. (pts \ yards) to the (28th\31st) so far without Peyton. Chances are they'll be (32nd\32nd) within a month.

In respect to my suggestion of Young, the 49ers went from (3rd\1st) to (22nd\10th) on the entire year, I'm not going to be crazy and try to figure out what they were in those 13 games... that'd be silly of me.

The Cowboys on the other hand went from (23rd\25th) to (30th\29th) from Aikman's last year with 11 starts to the year he retired. I'd say it is safe to say the Cowboys were dropping off well before Aikman had to retire.

With that in mind, maybe Peyton Manning is the most valuable player to an offense in the history of the NFL.

i thought for sure marino would get some love. i highly doubt manning would have gotten to a super bowl without a decent run game.

How 'bout Dan Marino?

Their defense lost some of those games for them

Their defense lost the Tampa Game and the KC game. They should have beat both of those teams hands down.

Manning has been held back mostly by things out of his control. If he was switched with McNabb he would of won 3 Super Bowls.
