See: Charlie Weiss at Notre Dame.
2005 - Fiesta Bowl (lost to OSU), top 10 finish in the BCS. Weiss won COY.
2006 - Preseason #2 ranking, ND went 10-2, lost Sugar Bowl to LSU, but finished top 20.
2007 - The wheels come off the bus. ND goes 3-9 (the worst season in its history).
2008 - ND starts out 4-1, but goes 6-6 for the season (and wins its bowl game against Hawaii).
2009 - After another 6-6 season, Weiss is fired.
Obviously Hoke hasn't delivered a stinker quite like ND's 2007 season under Weiss, but this season is starting to head in the direction of ND's 2008.
I like Michigan to rebound at NW (-3) this weekend.
So who has a heart attack first? Urban Meyer or Brady Hoke?
I'd go Urban... I question whether Hoke knows there is a game being played at times when I see him on the sideline...
As your fellow Domer points out right above your post, the comparison is apt.Gee, thanks for pointing this out.
This is a thread about Michigan, not Notre Dame.
But the morbid obesity tho....:/
I agree with some of this. If he let the OC call the OT plays, he might should go. If he called them himself he might should go too. He knows that the team is not doing much this year so why not give the new kid a shot. The more game time for this kid with no real pressure the better. As a Michigan fan I think he needs to go NOW. I think he should have lost his job after the cluster fuck at Penn State! I mean come on who plays for the FG? The coach that does that is just asking to be fired, and he did it what 4 times at the end of the game? IF we had a real coach, like a Nick Saban, we would have marched down the field and got a TD, not 3 straight runs up the gut for a total of 1 yard. cHoke has done nothing at Michigan, and he IS the cause! Hell, when is he going to take the ball out of the turnover machine Gardner's hands and give the ball for good to Morris? This season in done, Gardner is done, Morris is the future and it should start now!
Brady Hoke isn't Charlie Weis. Hoke had a track record as a head coach before he got to Michigan. Weis didn't have to bring in different types of players when he got to ND. I mean if the comparison is only that his teams got worse well a lot of coaches had that problem over the time that this game has been played. Some of those coaches got things turned around and some of them got canned. Either way Charlie Weis has nothing to do with Brady Hoke.
As far as firing anyone, I would certainly fire the OLine coach. Funk I think his name is. Fucking Funk!! He has 3-5 star guys all over his unit to choose from and they have just been awful. It may be worse than Rodriguez's first season. I don't get it but something has to shake there. I don't know if I fire Al Borges at this point. I mean really it's hard to see who on the O is good and who's not because the line can't make holes or hold blocks. I also think Hoke is the right guy. Even if he's not he hasn't proven that he's not. Firing him now just leads to instability. Another coach, new systems, starting over again, it's not a good look for recruits. Especially we we haven't even let the current coach get an entire team of his own guys yet. I mean people are acting like we're 3-6. No this is not what I expected this season and I'm sure as hell not happy about it but I think some people need to get a grip and stop trying to fire people before they even really fuck up!!
I don't have an opinion on whether Hoke needs to go. In my mind, he's doing a bang up job and needs to keep up the good work. I hope he goes 8-4 every year.
However, I don't know that using Hoke's coaching record is going to win a lot of hearts and minds since he never has won even a conference championship in his career.
In my mind the comparison to Weis was more because he seemed to bring in highly rated recruiting classes but never really developed the players to meet their potential, not necessarily just that his teams got worse over time.
As your fellow Domer points out right above your post, the comparison is apt.
