In 2012 Stafford (and the Lions) beat 8 teams who finished 8-8, all who would have finished with winning records had the Lions not beaten them. Not sure about 2009-2011.

Just depends on how you look at the stats.

Yeah the lions and stafford can beat mediocre teams all day. I consider 8-8 or 9-7 relatively mediocre, talk to me when the start playing with the great teams.

Yeah the lions have that wins/loss record and somehow lions fans always conveniently look past how awful the team does against good teams until its too late. See some of the comments back when the lions were 6-3 and had only beaten the bears and the cowboys, two teams who suck just as much. So anyhow its not just a stafford thing, its a team thing. Stafford will be fine in the end.

Based on what? I thought you were the realist around here?

We have did this song and dance before. Except you called me a pessimist and asked me the same question as to why I thought the eagles would smoke the lions. I provided you numerous realistic reasons why they would and then they did. Now, when Im optimistic about someone, you still have a problem? Geez, I cant win.

The Lions are on the hook for 91-93 million in guaranteed money to Stafford. He is here to stay for the foreseeable future.

That's where the new HC comes in. Schwartz never could beat any of the upper echelon teams.

Based on what?

Based on all the same things that made his successful in football from HS to the college until Schwartz and co. got a hold of him.

Can't wait to see you cheering for Linny and Schwartz on their next teams. Gonna hold you to it.

Agreed. With all of the talent on this team their record should have been much better. They play a cakewalk schedule in a weak division with their two main competitors without their qb for major parts of the season while stayin relatively injure free and may not even conjure up a .500 record. Pathetic.

I disagree, I believe the coaching has a lot to do with it. The other big part is he doesn't have the heart of a champion. You can see it in Manning and Brady's eyes every time they step on the field. I see he likes to win but losing doesn't seem to bother him to much. If Brady loses you can see it eats him alive. People might disagree but after the Ravens lost. Guy had the look of "Oh, well".

There are three QBs in the league who have "it". Peyton, Brady, Rodgers. You aren't getting that if you move on. Stafford is not particularly special, but he's the second best QB in the North.

Tom Brady is 36 years old. Matt Stafford is 25. He's also never won enough to hate losing the way Brady does.

Im not sure about brady but I know peyton and rodgers took some time to develop. You are right stafford and just about every other qb doesnt have "it" currently. The difference between staff and most of those guys is stafford has the potential to have "it", something us lions fans have really never seen.

Maybe, but either way my point was abandoning him because he doesn't have it is a losing proposition.

He may be 1-22 against winning teams, but his supporting cast sans megatron is not to great.

The kid is 25 with a rocket arm, good pocket presence, and a ton of upside. People forget how young he is.

He got a little wild at times this year, and it cost him. But the kid oozes talent

You absolutely keep him for the long haul
